Weird double split on this one - haven't seen that before. Unusually there's also rubber still visible. I'm really interested in how rippled it became as it retracted.

Another one where the timing was delayed. Really liked the contrast between the coloured water and background though. Unusually, the balloon rubber is still connected (normally it dissappears into a black whole, never to be seen again).

One of my failures that didn't look half bad. In this case the balloon popping didn't produce enough sound to trigger the shot, and instead the sound of water falling did. About 1 in 10 shots seem to fail like this. Often because of too large ballons that are underfilled, or sometimes just luck. Almost like they've been silenced.

I quite like how bits of water are sqirting through my fingers - all of which are still - as yet - dry. FYI I'm entirely in frame (a la this).

Another shot from the same series as this. Taken with a slighly shorter delay such that the rubber is still retracting. You can see that when my fingers aren't extended (a la this), the rubber has a tendancy to catch.
I really like the detail in the water as the balloon rubber has rippled over the surface. One of the more recognisable 'water balloon' photos I've posted.

A unique pose from this shoot. Much more messy than normal, as I had to hold the balloon just inches from my chest (I'm entirely in frame). Might try again with some lighting adjustment.

One of the alternates to this shot, but with a shorter delay. The water's not quite the right colour - was looking for a much deeper blue / purple. Still, very happy with the contrast to the vibrant background.

The downside of these shots with the dark balloons is that it's a heck of a lot more messy. I look like a Pollock after doing a few of these. In fact I seem to remember going through a bottle and a half of blue dye alone for this shoot!

I'm intreagued as to where the balloon rubber actually gets to when I take these. Nonetheless, pretty fun.

Seeing what I can do with colour in these shots. So happy it's getting warm enough to do these again. Had lots of fun setting these up and making a mess.

One of the few non-coloured, white background shots I tried. Looks somewhat like a ball of ice. Had some flecks of red (from the balloon), but removed with selective saturation removal. Think the droplets at the edge demonstrate the flashes being out of sync. Need to work on that.

What happens when the delay is a little longer. A fair amount of dye went in to this one. What amuses me most is that with several of these shots I have no idea where the balloon rubber went! Walking around in the dark, then a bright flash of light, I'm the last person to see the result.
