Snow Dog 2/52

{2H Design} posted a photo:

Or the ice queen cometh? ;)

For a Texas dog, this Colorado transplant sure does love her snow!

I was originally going to do a 'booty' shot this week, inspired by her immense dislike of wearing booties. Subzero temps earlier this week and razor sharp snow made them a reality. I took a couple shots inside one evening before our walk, but it just didn't work (think ugly on camera flash & lots of dog movement). So we headed to the park this afternoon in an attempt to get the 'booty' shot. However, since it was 45 degrees, I just decided to let her run around and play unadorned for awhile. I'm so glad I did - she had a blast playing in the snow. She truly loves the snow. Loves to dive in it, eat it, roll in it, stretch in it, pounce on it and just plain go bananas in it. Don't believe me? Here's a silly out take: www.flickr.com/photos/18572605@N02/5358553711/
Introducing Crackers 1/52

{2H Design} posted a photo:

When I first got Crackers from a pound in Midland, Texas, I was living in an apartment complex. She was turned in as an “English Shepherd Mix” with the name Gorda (Spanish for fat girl). Since she was only about 7 months old, clearly not fat and didn’t respond to her name (or any other command for that matter), I decided the name had to go.

And boy, when you have a new dog without a name, everyone and their dog has a suggestion. Pun intended.

Since things happened quickly, a few days after I got her I took her down to pay her doggie deposit, rent and meet the office gals at the apartments. As I sat in one of the desk chairs setting things up, my new dog suddenly leapt into the empty chair next to me and ate a pile of saltines sitting on the desk before anyone could stop her. Ali, the gal working with me, looked at me and said “you should name her Crackers.” I laughed one of those “ha ha, whatever” laughs and went on my way.

However, as I got to know my new furry friend over the next few weeks, the name Crackers just seemed to suit her.

---
Here's an outtake from the shoot. I know it's blurry, but I should have used it for the intro shot. Whoops! www.flickr.com/photos/18572605@N02/5321988524 /

Lazy Sunday Afternoons 6/52

It's gorgeous out, but we tuckered ourselves out at the park earlier. Ahhh... gotta love lazy Sunday afternoons!
--
I'm still frustrated with my little point n click canon powershot - it's super hard to get crisp images in low light inside the house. Apparently being uninspired this week and waiting to the last minute forced me to choose from a few select shots, as my camera battery died. Ugh. In the end, I think I made the right choice, as the last hour or so I've been sitting on the couch with laptop. Crackers has been here lounging around keeping me company (and puppy too: www.flickr.com/photos/18572605@N02/5443123750/).

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night... 5/52

... lighting flashed. Thunder crashed.

In the distance, a puppy cried in fear and suddenly Crackers was no longer sure.

--
We had a hard evening with the puppy tonight and we had to separate her for a little while to calm down (kind of like putting the crying/screaming baby in the crib for a little bit while mom gets her cool back). We quickly discovered we have lots more crate training to work on, which is surprising as she's great in the crate when we're gone during the day. So between the cries of the puppy, the frustrations of mom (me) trying to figure out how to control the shutter speed on my point & click (my d60 is at the repair shop for the next several weeks) and things just getting a little tense, Crackers started to get worried. I think you can see it in her expression here - I love the moody light on her eye!

Thankfully, everything turned out fine. We simply cut the photo shoot short, continued to shower Crackers with lots of treats and praise, and released the puppy from her crate and did some clicker sit/down training.
At First Glance 4/52

{2H Design} posted a photo:

I know this is a project about Crackers and this photo IS all about her. The big news in her week is the sweet lil pup you see sitting in my lap came home to live with Crackers and the rest of the Hagerman gang on Tuesday night. Needless to say, Crackers world is rapidly changing as she adjusts to the joys and annoyances of a new puppy playing with her, chewing on her ears and squeaking that darned squeaker toy over and over again!

A little more about puppy: she's a 4 month old English Setter from Wyoming. She weighs 20 pounds currently and has insane amounts of energy. If you would like to see more photos of her, you can see some here: www.flickr.com/photos/18572605@N02/sets/72157625815842905/

As you may know, my d60 bit it early this week (Monday night) shortly after the picture was taken. So I didn't have a whole lot of choices for good images this week. I still have an old canon powershot that works okay, but I'm just not happy with anything I've gotten from it - with a new puppy in the house, it's just not fast enough. Guess it's time to learn my ole point n click a little better. Any pointers?

CC Welcome - I know the moon won't be full again for awhile and keep in mind that while my dog will sit/stay, she moves her head an awful lot. But I am curious on any suggestions on how to take a better dog/moonlight shot...
