Snake River Weather

More weather moving through on the Snake River, Yukon, Canada. We got a lot of this on our 2 week trip down the river. Stayed up late to take this one...it never really got dark this close to the Arctic Circle. The mosquitoes were horrendous...I was wearing a bug shirt and rain gear..

Storm passing through on Divide Lake, Temagami, Ontario, Canada. Divide Lake is also known as Katherine Lake. Its on the Lady Evelyn River, where the river divides into the north and south channels.

This was from a 12 day trip in this area.

We saw no sign of man for 10 days. It really is pristine wilderness.

We had hoped to hike up to the canyon upstream but the heavy rains flooded over this natural bridge. We were able to hike up the next morning.

In the RAW converter I adjusted the white balance to daylight and increased the contrast...this was taken at just the instant the sun came over the horizon

I bought an old used 300mm F2.8 that I took this with.

This is from last year's solo trip to the mouth of the French River. It had been raining off and on all day, and I was out shooting in the evening after setting up my camp. I stayed out till dark, then started paddling back to my campsite...good thing I took a compass bearing because I was heading in the wrong direction.

When you shoot a long exposure about 1/2 hr after sunset you get these great blues.

This is from a short canoe trip last fall.

Alot of things came together to make this shot--timing, planning and scouting. I knew from the weather forecast that it would be cold (-2 C) and that meant that mist would form. I had scouted out the location the evening before. I got up before dawn, made coffee for my wife ( the paddler ) and convinced her of the beauties of the early morning.

I used a 3 stop ND Grad filter.

This is looking the other way from my previous shot.

The water here is quite shallow, so standing on thin ice is not as dangerous as it appears.

Nothing new to show so here's an old one

3 seconds at F8...the ice in the foreground was moving around, hence the blurriness.

At this point I was still using Cokin filters. You may notice the magenta cast (which happens to look nice in this shot). So I found that they weren't colour neutral. So I switched to using Singh-Ray.
