We are very happy to announce the release of Brownstone Sans & Frames.

Last week we announced that it just received a Certificate of Excellence at the Bienal Tipos Latinos 2010!

One design sparks another. As Alejandro Paul experimented with the strokes and curves of the monoline script Business Penmanship, he discovered interesting new forms and shapes that didn't fit the Spencerian theme of that typeface. These forms simmered in Ale's subconscious over the next three years, during which time he visited New York City, pored over rare type specimen books in the New York Public Library, and explored Brooklyn's neighborhoods.

Brownstone, the face born from these explorations, is an original 21st-century design, yet one subtly infused with historical and cultural references - keen observers might spot influences from decorative typefaces of 19th-century foundries. And just as faces from that era were influenced by contemporary architecture, the frames included with Brownstone echo the ornate iron railings of Park Slope's row houses. (There's also a slight 1960s vibe to Brownstone, of novelty swash-sans photocompositing faces, that can be played up at your discretion.)

Influences aside, Brownstone has broad appeal to modern audiences. A soft, monoline sans-serif, with elements of Swiss geometry (see the 'k' and 'x'), its marriage of highly legible, draftsman-like letterforms with decorative swashes and ornaments reflects the old-meets-new aesthetic of the DIY craft culture seen in Brooklyn and other urban centers. It's ornamental but unfussy, romantic but understated - a design theme well-suited to recession-era cynicism.

We are proud to announce the release of Biographer, a mild upright script drawn by Angel Koziupa, with Alejandro Paul art directing and producing. Elegant but quite reminiscent of roman forms and proportions, Biographer keeps the calligraphy mostly toned down, but its ascenders and descenders occasionally flare out in final swashy confidence. As usual with Sudtipos fonts, alternates are plenty and the personal touch is never amiss. Biographer could be great for women’s lit and poetry book covers, but also for products packaging where conveying comfort and peace of mind is of importance. An extensive range of languages are covered (Western and Eastern European, Baltic, Turkish, Maltese and Celtic)

About Ricotta
Another unmistakable Koziupa/Paul production, Ricotta has very little baby fat for a sturdy brush script. What movement it shows is effective and integral to its expression, which is at once compact, lush and eye-catching. A few weeks and the font will be released. In the while I was playing with it. Ok I m not good with photoshop! lol

I was doubting about to continue showing my font projects because lately I was pointed to same people doing fonts that really copy what I m doing or what I did before. Obviously they release a font in days while it takes to me long months and somethime years like this one.

I hope people before buy some stuff could see the differences.

We are proud to announce the release of Theorem, and yes, is not a script!

Theorem is an interesting change from the usual calligraphic work of Koziupa and Paul. An art deco font with a twist in its capitals, Theorem's lowercase characters were designed to automatically achieve the best optical spacing in typesetting. To accomplish that goal, a variety of alternates were drawn for most letters, and plenty of vowel-focused ligatures were designed. The auto-magic of OpenType ties it all together to a make a very versatile typeface that is quite useful for packaging and many different applications of display typography.
