Well, it saved the tree, sorta, while giving right of way to the utility lines. A compromise. The deformed tree seemed to call for a deformed portrait.

I saw this yesterday (and again today) on my walk to the coffee shop. Years ago I enjoyed owning two very similar VW beetles, a green one for four years and then its blue replacement. My longer driven VW beetle was four years old when I bought it for $2400 and 16 years later I sold it for $1000. Cars cost infinitely more nowadays and none of my other cars have been as much fun to drive. I haven't driven a VW beetle since 1994, except later to test drive a new beetle (which feels very different and cost much more, actually above list price at the time, because they were so much in demand).

Once again flickr has taken upon itself to misinform everyone about where this picture was taken -- it was nowhere near Frenchtown Renaissance, although it was here in Tallahassee.

I completely agree with Raymond Moody in saying "It's a fascinating book!"

Finished reading it this evening and can say it is very well written all the way through. Nearly all of it was very interesting to me, although some parts more so than others. Some of the last parts were too far out for me to know what to make of.

Digital watercolor painted with Pen & Ink, using its new eraser that allows for a wide range of size and pressure. Whatever else can be said about this, it looks to me a lot like nondigital paint on paper, with layers showing through and parts rubbed out. It was fun to see what would emerge and what would remain mostly hidden. Pen & Ink is certainly evolving into a wonderful iPad art app.

Such extreme global weirdness, the oceans completely covered with ice. In looking at Earth's long term climate history every kind of extreme looks possible and even likely, sooner or later. These massive fluctuations in climate suggest to me that in the biggest picture of time and space the blips of friendly order appear only briefly amidst a predominant chaos. This 2012 book that I'm reading in its iBook version is clear and succinct, but doesn't seem to claim more than is known. It is perhaps the best of several weather and climate books that I have owned.
