I went out to take photos with my two good friends Natalie and Miles by the Arboretum. A slowly smoldering log burned in the middle of an abandoned camp, like an oversize stick of incense, and the air smelled wet like late winter.

The highway howls in the distance. I load another roll into my F3.

A roll of film has been sitting inside my Holga, which has spent the greater part of the year collecting dust in an old corner of my room. The oldest shot is from August 2009. Months went by and through the ruby red window, the roll stayed on six, and then nine, and then eleven, until I picked it up yesterday, finished the roll and developed it.

This photo, I believe, was taken sometime in late winter 2010. Everything has changed. That's why I scanned it backwards, the feelings and words are shapes.

The moment when she turned down from the light.

I like the idea of almost, that non-standard measurement of near completeness. I want to navigate that intermediate space in my work, the space between things. Perhaps, that is why I enjoy photography -- it grants you the wisdom of distance.

Outtake from my final project, this photo is missing the silly concept, a black box that blocks out part of the image. Regardless, I love slide film, but definitely have found it difficult to scan especially dense (dark) slides with my Epson 4490.

It's been months, Flickr. I've missed you. I am back now, let's pretend I never left. I was caught up with life, I didn't get much of a chance to actually look at what I was doing.

Maybe I'll update once a week! Now that's a lofty goal for someone who's been gone for several months, wouldn't you say?

It's funny how I am going to art school to be a photographer, but have found that I've made fewer pictures, because I've found other ways to make them, ways that continually challenge and expand my aesthetic. It's like I found the right sauce, and I just dip everything into it.

I also went to work on my social skills. She's an actress; I've been learning.
