While doing some back up, I came across these photos from New Orleans in April 2008.

This was shot in Mid-City. An old red and white truck, and vine-covered structures are visible since the house in front has been demolished. All that remains are the crumbling steps that led up to the porch.

While doing some back up, I came across these photos from New Orleans in April 2008.

This was shot in Mid-City. The yellow trumpet vines have nearly smothered the second house on the right, while the next two houses are still under reconstruction post-Katrina. The cream colored shotgun house on the left still retains its jigsaw cut zig-zag trim and intricate gingerbread.

Flowers Are Winning

While doing some back up, I came across these photos from New Orleans in April 2008.

This was shot in Mid-City. You can almost see the yellow trumpet vines growing in the Spring. Here, a house wears a roof top of buttery yellow flowers and long tangles of vines.

I haven't even finished getting Christmas packed away, but I wanted to share some post-Christmas stuff! These photos are from 2010.

A vintage white china bird (made in Japan) displays a strand of Mardi Gras Beads--January 6th, or Twelfth Night, marks the beginning of Mardi Gras Season. This year, Mardi Gras will be on February 12, just two days before Valentine's Day!

Antoine's (top) and the legendary spread at the Aft Deck Oyster Bar in the Hotel Monteleone are just two of the choices for sampling New Orleans' cuisine. I have eaten at Antoine's several times, but never made it to the Aft Deck.

Detail from a two-page spread in a mid-1970s French Quarter souvenir guide booklet. In the early 2000s, clowns had faded from popularity as choices for Mardi Gras costumes seen at Bourbon Street celebrations.

This parade sign is from 2006. The photo was taken in Gretna, LA, on the West Bank, but signs like this are on display throughout Louisiana beginning on the Twelfth Night, or Epiphany Day, which is January 6th.

Vintage souvenir tambourine showing the highlights of the Big Easy. Missing one pair of metal discs, but the graphics are in great shape. The side features a wavy music staff.

I snatched this treasure up at Bridgewood Farms (benefiting mentally disabled adults) in Conroe, TX.

The Saints won their game and in New Orleans there was much rejoicing. This year we stayed in Texas, but I got out my favorite crown decoration and some beads to celebrate Mardi Gras.
