Okay, so not all of them are pink. But all of them were thrift store finds. I have assembled this crew to re-make them into Dios de los Muertos Pups.

Puffy the Pine Cone, the whimsical mascot of The Woodlands, Texas, celebrates Arbor Day. This year's Arbor Day was Jan. 23, 2011, but the time for planting shrubberies and vegetables in the hot, humid Houston area is NOW.

TWHS Highlander

The Woodlands Highlander Football Team beat their top-rated rival, the Katy Tigers in an exciting game of Texas High School football, with the game score 31 to 27.

The Tigers were last year's state chamnps and are the 4th rated U.S. High School team. Go Red and Green!

Goin' Band Logo

My son is back in college (he's a junior now). For his first two years, he marched tuba in the biggest college marching Band in the U.S.--the Goin' Band from Raiderland at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

This year, his classes conflict and his interest has waned. As a long-time Band Mom, I'm still grieving, but he's gotta do what he wants!

Still, the Goin' Band is amazing--at least 250 students strong, the Band literally fills the football field. And they put out AWESOME sound! Guns Up! Go Band!

Owney the Postal Dog

Scan showing the detail of the 2012 U.S. postage "forever" stamp commemorating "Owney" the Postal Dog. I haven't seen these stamps for sale yet. I think it's a mid-year release.

From the National Postal Museum website: "Owney, posed here with a letter carrier, was a scruffy mutt who became a regular fixture at the Albany, New York, post office in 1888. His owner was likely a postal clerk who let the dog walk him to work. Owney was attracted to the texture or scent of the mailbags and when his master moved away, Owney stayed with his new mail clerk friends. He soon began to follow mailbags. At first, he followed them onto mail wagons and then onto mail trains. Owney began to ride with the bags on Railway Post Office (RPO) train cars across the state . . . and then the country! In 1895 Owney made an around-the-world trip, traveling with mailbags on trains and steamships to Asia and across Europe, before returning to Albany."

Florida Orange Birds

We did the pin-trading thing at Walt Disney World, using a stash acquired by the lot from eBay. My son was the master trader, and he collected this six-pin "Florida Orange Bird" cast-lanyard set for me. The silver bird is a the "chaser" or "caboose" for the set.

The cute birds are displayed here on a vintage souvenir potholder.

We're not pin-trading fanatics--although we did trades with park guests as well as cast members.

H.E..B., a Texas-based grocer, passed out goodie bags at the recent PetFest, held in Olde Town Spring, Texas. Treats included a copy of "Texas Life", the in-store magazine (it's really a decent publication) and some bacon-treats for dogs, plus these cute fans featuring the kid mascot, a paper grocery store sack filled with healthy foods.

Buc-ees is a Texas tradition--this family-owned travel center has locations on I-10 and I-45. From humble beginnings, the Buc-ees chain is famous for Buc-ee Beaver, shown here on a well-worn tee-shirt decal.

I put my very first Buc-ees shirt (purchased in 2004) directly on my scanner. I have a cropped version of the logo on my stream, but like the boldness of the red background.

The Red Raiders are not having a good football season.

I used a photograph I took a couple years back of the Masked Rider statue and played with layers and leather scraps from my scan collection (I've been photographing or simply scanning old vintage western belts). I should have straightened the belt on the right a tad more before flattening the image.

I have been using the tutorials from Shadowhouse Creations blog to learn how to add layers to my photos to create moods.

That's my son playing "Santa PAWS" at PetsMart to help raise funds to support the Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society, Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Both of our dogs (Taco, on Santa's lap) and Cross (in the Candy Cane Elf's arms) were rescued by the ladies at PAWS!

Our Youngest Band Booster

Battle of the Mascots

I attended the University of California at Irvine, which has Peter the Anteater as its mascot. My son attends Texas Tech at Lubbock, which has the Masked Rider as its mascot.

When my son asked me why I liked Tech's mascot so much, I answered: "One reason! There's a horse!"

He didn't believe the Anteater was UCI's mascot (he's not into College Sports) until I found the logo used during my University years, the one based on Johnny Hart's B.C. character. And yes, our "cheer" was "Zot!"
