This is my childhood copy of the popular "Rocks and Minerals" Golden Nature Guide. The rock hammer is my Dad's rock hammer from his early days as a petro-chemical engineer. The compass was a gift from my husband.

Flagship store in Rockefeller Center, New York City. I think the San Francisco store does a better job with the interior displays. This window display had a "cabinet of wonders" naturalist/scholar theme.

My childhood copy of The Golden Nature Guide to Butterflies and Moths. A guide to the more common American species, with 433 illustrations in color.

These pocket-sized field guides from Golden Press launched the investigations of two generations of young naturalists.

It's all here--more than 400 subjects in full color! "The Golden Regional Guide to The American Southwest." With natural wonders, Indian villages , scenic routes and more! Makes me want to hitch up the Airstream (oh, how I wish I had one) and mosey on down the highway.

Golden Nature Guide "Sea Shells of the World: A Guide to Better Known Species." With 790 illustrations in full color. Popular with amateur field scientists, the Golden Guide books have inspired an entire generation to pursue the natural sciences.

Sea Shells form my personal collection--the welk is from Pascagoula, MS, while I the large cone shell shell on O'ahu's North Show. The smaller cone shell was a purchase from a vendor at the Kam Swap Meet in Pearl City, Hawai'i.
