I can't verify this, but this looks like a shot from the late 1980s at the Augora Ranch site of the venerable California Renaissance & Pleasure Faire. During the 1980s, I attend this event each year with my Mom.

Detail of "A New Map of Texas, Oregon and California," drawn by S. Augustus Mitchell in 1846, shows Texas a year or so before being annexed to the United States. The original map resides in The Library of Congress.

Back cover detail from "Texas: Mapping the Lone Star State Through History. Rare and unusual Maps from the Library of Congress," by Vincent Virga and Don Blevins, The Globe Pequot Press (GPP) Guilford, CT, 2010.

This lovely hardbound book has a vellum dust jacket that conceals much of the details on these two maps.

The publisher also offers map collections of California, Colorado and Virginia.

I bought this copy of the San Francisco Literary Map at "The Pirate Store," which supports the literary efforts at 826 Valencia Street. Published in 2005, the map features a list of bookstores and literary highlights with text by Jenny Traig and wonderful illustrations by Paul Madonna.

826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to eighteen with their writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Co-founded by author David Eggers, the organization's work is based on the understanding that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
