Black Mountain Ballers' McKenna Crawford slides into home in a Triple Crown Sports Fastpitch World Series game against the Newport Beach Sharks in Coalville, Utah on July 19. Blue called her out. This was not a force play and the pitcher who was covering home missed the tag big time as can be seen in the photo. I have never seen McKenna protest a call against her before, but she did so this time. She gets up and extends her arms, mouth wide open, and a look of total shock on her face as if to say "What's up with that, Blue?!" That wasn't working so she walks back to the dugout in tears. That was enough for her dad Jamie (who's one of the coaches) and our manager/head coach to complain about the call. The combination of McKenna's reaction and the coaches' protesting was enough to get Blue to change the call. When I talked to McKenna later about the play she told me she faked the crying in an attempt to get sympathy from Blue. It worked.

Opening ceremony parade at the Triple Crown Sports Fastpitch World Series held in Park City, Utah July 16-21. The Black Mountain Ballers succeeded in placing 9th in the gold bracket out of 74 teams from across the country.

12U Black Mountain Ballers' McKenna Crawford tags the California Yankees runner as she slides past second base withhout touching it in the final championship USSSA Spring Training Classic Tournament game on April 29. The umpire called the runner safe resulting in loud protests from the stands (including yours truly). Justice was served when minutes later the same runner was called out at home. The Ballers went on to win the tournament championship for their second consecutive tournament championship.

This was shot during a "friendly" (i.e., non-tournament) series hosted by the Black Mountain Ballers in Rancho Penasquitos, San Diego, California. The weather was perfect with temperatures in the low 80's.
