As the dogs run they bump into each other. Catch it just right and it seems as though they are posing!
This was during the annual dog mushing races in late March.

Unexpected Visitors

On this cold February morning, I awoke to this pair, a mother moose and her calf, visiting in my front yard. By the time I got my camera, they had moved on to my neighbor's yard, but I was still able to get a few shots off before they left. You can tell in this shot that the mother was checking me out. She wasn't completely sure I wasn't a threat. By the way, this is in town - city limits!

This month was a very nice month for northern light viewing. One of the nights was incredible and produced many colors. Even purple!

Pent-up Anticipation

These two dogs couldn't contain their excitement. Many think that these dogsledding races are no fun for the dogs, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. These dogs get really excited and can't wait to run. Many of them bark and jump and whine. I caught these two in the middle of their excitement.

This is an ice sculpture from the world ice carving championships here in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am not sure if this won a prize or not, but it definitely shows the incredible beauty one can make with ice.

This is a maze made completely of ice. It is made every year for the kids of the area in the ice park where they hold the yearly world ice carving championships

One morning I woke to this frost on my livingroom window. I am not sure if nature is trying to mock me or give me hope. To me, this looks like a tropical scene - in frost!

Sometimes the frost here in the arctic can be very light and will stick at any angle. This is a type of frost called hoar frost.

Yukon Quest 300 Dogsled Race

These are pictures of the beginning of the Yukon Quest 300 Dog sled race. It was the first time I have ever seen this in real life. Very cool experience.

October Northern Lights

The beautiful display of northern lights filled the sky above my house. It was brighter than normal and even showed a little more color than the typical green.

Another beautiful night of auroras graced the sky. I was able to take a few shots as they danced above my house. I am still amazed that I was able to see them in spite of the bright city lights.

Ionia County Courthouse

This is the courthouse in the town I grew up in. It grandly stands on the edge of downtown. The opposite side of this building is on the bottom of a large hill. It is always impressive to go over the hill to reveal this.

Ionia Library

This library was once a home. It was built in the 1870's and later dedicated to the town to be used solely as a library. When I last checked, there was a note attached to my account there... I was still not able to check out a book without parental supervision because I left a crayon in a book I returned! Wow.
