I was fascinated by the shadows these little water skimmer bugs left on the rocks below. As best as I can figure, they bend the surface of the water enough to cause these little dark spots surrounded by brighter spots. Light refraction for the win!

For the final week of 'Shadows' challenge theme for SPC.

I ended up with a bunch of unused outtakes that I'm sharing in the comments below. I found myself much more consciously aware of the 'shadows' theme than I usually am of other themes.

Here's the original. The original was edited using an online editor (Picnik, I think) and I lost some detail and the vignette was a little heavy handed, I thought.
