Unplanned photo. About 6:45 a.m., the sun was coming up and the fog starting to lift off of the Connecticut River and I had the camera in the car. This is the oldest continuously running ferry in the United States, started in 1665. Not the same boats, though...

Leaving Vineyard Haven and heading back to the mainland... this couple was like this most of the ride.

I forgot the camera was set at a low pixel rate... I normally shoot at a high rate and thought I had changed it back, Guess not!

The two Connecticut ferries on the Connecticut river are scheduled to close later this month due to budget cuts. This will be a significant loss to the communities they serve. There's been a ferry in operation here since 1655.

This pulls the ferry across the Connecticut River. The ferry is closed for the season but was still in the water.

I found this old print in a box of photos I had never seen before. It was small (2" x 3") but a contact print, so it scanned pretty well. I'm guessing this is Oak Bluffs in the mid-1940s.
