Pendant la guerre de Cent Ans, les premiers seigneurs de Carrouges établissent une place forte à la frontière de la Normandie et du Maine. La propriété revient ensuite par mariage aux Blosset de Saint-Pierre.
Le XVe siècle est marqué par Jean Blosset qui décide la construction du logis. Confident du roi Louis XI, il le reçoit en 1473. Il fait de sa sœur, mariée à Philippe Le Veneur, son héritière. Les Le Veneur de Tillières tiennent le domaine de la fin du XVe siècle à 1936.
Le château est classé monument historique en 1927. L’État l’acquiert avec une partie de son mobilier en 1936.

During the Hundred Years’ War, the first lords of Carrouges built a stronghold on the border of Normandy and the Maine. The property later came to the Blosset de Saint-Pierre family by marriage.
In the 15th century, Jean Blosset made his mark by deciding to build the residence. He was the confidant of King Louis XI who visited in 1473. He made his sister, who was married to Philippe Le Veneur, his heiress. The Le Veneur de Tillières family owned the estate from the end of the 15th century until 1936.
The castle was listed as a historic monument in 1927. The State purchased it along with some of its furniture in 1936.

This castle in a small village in the Pays d'Auge, belonged to the writer André Gide. Gide was mayor of the Roque - Baignard from 1896 to 1900.

Le manoir de Coupesarte De conception et de construction typiquement augeronnes, il comporte une habitation principale du XVème siècle, et une aile ajoutée au siècle suivant à l'usage des services de la demeure. Il est entouré de douves.
