A close up of some of the names lining the edges of the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero, Manhattan. The sheer number of names around these pools is hard to comprehend.

A shot of one of the two Memorial Pools at the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero Manhattan. The poignancy of the site is really brought home by the sheer number of names dotted around these two pools. Since I was last in Manhattan in 2010, it's amazing to see how far the site has progressed as it was still mostly a building site back then and is edging nearer and nearer to completion.

Brooklyn Bridge

Looking up at the Brooklyn Bridge. Whilst we were there a lot of the Bridge was covered in sheet metal fencing, presumably due to the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. With a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m), it was the longest suspension bridge in the world from its opening until 1903, and the first steel-wire suspension bridge.

A waterfall along a section of the White Salmon River in Oregon.

This shot is from our trip across America back in 2010. I've been revisiting a few old ones now I have access to CS6 and it continues to amaze just how much extra detail can be extracted from a file. This shot never got beyond a casual attempt to process in the past due to not being able to extract enough from the image, so it hung around waiting for software to catch up. The foreground wood still annoys me but for the time being will have to do.

Molly deciding that she wanted the stick after all, and diving head first at Poppy to get it. I just wish this shot had been framed a few more inches to the right, but I really wasn't expecting her to jump at Poppy like that so only got away the one shot.

Just testing out the new Camera Raw 7 in Photoshop CS6 by going back to a picture previously processed a couple of years ago and having a play with the new engine. I must say on early viewing it seems to be drastically more powerful! Unfortunatley this probably means a lot of time revisiting and improving the PP on old photos now!

This shot was originally taken back in 2010 from the Empire State building around sunset looking towards Downtown.

Here's another shot from my first day of shooting with the 8-15mm Fisheye. You really have to look at your compositions in a whole new way, as you have to be SO close to things to give them any impact in a scene.

I'm still coming to terms with the new way of shooting, but it's beginning to slowly click!

One thing that is amazing is that due to its very short focal length, you are able to get hand held shots at very slow shutter speeds! This shot was taken at 1/3s hand held.

The shot itself was taken in Buxton, Derbyshire.

So here's a lens I read about a couple of months ago and instantly became intrigued by.

I'd always wondered whether I'd get use out of a fisheye, and after much reading into the pros and cons, I decided I'd push ahead and get one.

On the 7D I don't get the advantage of the fully circular fish eye effect at the 8mm end, although I do benefit from having more of a zoom range with the whole sensor covered at the long end. (Roughly 4mm more).

The effect, whilst not for everyone, is very interesting, although I can appreciate it will need to be used sparingly. At 15mm there is very little distortion on the APS-C sensor allowing it to be treated in effect as a regular ultra-wide.

Anyway the shot - this is my VW Scirocco - a car that for some reason isn't available in the USA (you're missing out! It's a great little machine!)
