Bank Vole, Myodes glareolus; formerly Clethrionomys glareolus lives in woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens. Bank Voles eat fruit, nuts and small insects, but are particularly keen on hazelnuts and blackberries. They are very active animals and are frequently seen, sometimes even visiting bird tables. Bank Voles can have three or four litters a year, each with up to seven young.

Rabbits: came originally from south west Europe and north west Africa. Deliberate introduction to many countries has been so successful that rabbits are often considered as pests, owing to the vast ecological and agricultural damage they can cause. Yet they remain a economically important mammal species for food, fur and so on. The grass and plants they graze at dawn and dusk are of such poor nutritional value that rabbits eat their faeces to squeeze every last bit of remaining nourishment. Thumping their back legs sends a warning to others that one of their numerous predators is about.

This deer caused me some concern for a moment.... (8-0

I was on a public footpath which forms part of the nature trail at the Kent Wildlife Trusts' Bough Beech Reserve near Chiddingstone, and had stopped for a while to take some landscape photos along the edge of an old 'Shaw' (ancient wooded area between to fields) by the name of 'Long Broom Shaw' when I was alerted to the thundering of hooves. I stood still and found myself in the path of an oncoming roe deer who had been flushed by some walkers coming my way. The deer seemed not to see me until it was only feet away then it panicked firstly running into the fence twice, then it turned and jumped a barbed wire fence and made its' escape across the adjacent field.

I love nature..... you never know what you are going to experience next..... ;-)
