I think this is probably a large white as there were nastursiums last year just below where this is.

I find bumblebees difficult- I am keen to be able to recognise them better - I am pretty sure these are common carder bees.
Not great pictures but they are such busy things they just dont stop and pose!
I took loads and these were the best I could get.

above - potatoes in bags in the greenhouse. They will move out to a south facing wall in the next week or so. I keep topping up the bags with compost as they grow. Should be ready to eat mid June

I had to work for this picture - plenty of bees on the flowers but most of them are above head height - not great for taking macros!

I am keen to get pictures of honeybees on named flowers this year. Some of my honeybee macro pictures have been used on a poster for the Ulster Beekeepers Association for their stand at the Balmoral show next week. Thinking ahead, I'd like to have a library of bee macro pictures to use for stuff like this.

My focus over the weekend was to further this plan. I have lots of bees (This is not always a given for this time of year) and all of a sudden there is lots of stuff in flower. So it ought to be simple!

Number one on my list for the weekend was pear blossom. I have 2 pear trees in profuse flower, less than 10 meters from the bee hives. I spent hours this weekend stalking the unattended flowers - the bees are avoiding them completely! Previous years I watched bee after bee on the pear flowers but didn’t think to photograph them.

Whilst waiting in vain I took these pictures at the base of one of the pear trees on dandelion.
