Ditch of Blood

After visiting the ruined remains of the Trinity Temple on North Uist we started to make our way back to the car.

This shot was taken about half way back towards the main road (just before crossing the wooden ramp which lets you cross the Ditch of Blood) and is a perfect example of why you shouldn't only shoot pictures in the particular direction you first look - the return over the path which had been trampled into the grassy hill looked simply stunning with the blue sky and fluffy clouds overhead.

You all know what it's like - outside is cold, wet, windy - lets just use the word "horrible".

It's times like this that get you thinking about warmer times, in my case today it took me back to the Isle of Lewis one of the islands which makes up Scotlands Outer Hebrides where Mireille and myself spent our summer holiday last year.

I revisited the folder of images from Lewis and decided to re-process a few of them for fun - this capture of the sky and clouds reflections on the almost mirror-like surface of Loch Ahmastar.

When we started the day our plans involved exploring North Uist and when time and weather permitted to also stop off at a few locations around the Isle of Benbecula which splits the North and South sections of the Uist Islands, but as it moved into the mid-evening we decided that it would be much better if we made the most of the good weather and continued onto South Uist for an hour or so before night fell completely.

We explored the North West quadrant of South Uist first and then made our way a little further South to the shores of Loch Druidibeg which you see featured here with the hills of Hecla and Ben Corodale partially covered by cloud in the background.

The sheer stillness, silence and tranquility here was amazing to experience, in a little over an hour on exploring the island of South Uist we passed only 3 other cars, so you could say we had the place to ourselves for this time.
