Superyacht "Amaryllis", built earlier this year in the German shipyard of Abeking & Ramussen, is a recent arrival in Portsmouth. 78 metres overall, she sleeps 12 and is has a crew of 22.

Celebrated today's fine weather with a seafood lunch. Shot by available light through the restaurant window. A tasty marinated herring starter with a dish of bouillabaisse to follow. Heaven.

Decided we wouldn't go to all the bother of cooking Christmas lunch this year. So we went to Café Rouge instead. Full of families who'd had the same idea. Delightful.

Lemon sole with capers, haddock & chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas (served on newspaper, of course), Thai-style fishcakes with a sweet chilli and coriander dipping sauce, fillet of smoked salmon served sashimi style with wasabi and soy sauce.

The two craft in the foreground are restored WWII veterans now on show at Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays. High-speed launch 102 was an RAF rescue boat used to retrieve airmen who had been shot down in the British Channel. Launches like these saved the lives of over 10,000 pilots and aircrew. The larger craft is MGB81, a Royal Navy gun-boat used during the D-Day landings, supporting American troops on Omaha Beach.
