Definately View On Black

I'm super happy with how this came out considering I literally had 5 minutes to set it up as the MPs waited patiently.

Thanks to my buddy Cliff for the pit access (and keeping conversation with the MPs) while I got this shot at the Reno Air Races.

Strobist: 5x bare Nikon Speedlights (4 with CTOs and one under with a heavy red gel). I will post a link to a diagram of the setup tomorrow. Basically, the CTO speedlights are positioned in an X pattern shooting at 1/2 power at 24mm. All triggered by skyports.

The tent was lit inside by a Coleman lantern and the foreground was illuminated by the camp-fire.

The Milky Way over the two small towns of Gerlach and Empire, Nv (where I grew up): For this shot, I painted the foreground from the side with a mag-light and proceeded to shoot a total of eight VERY high ISO exposures vertically. The original panorama was 180 degrees, however I decided to crop it due to the light pollution produced by Black Rock City.

My D300 exposed for 3.5 hours (105x2-mins) with me sleeping inside. The sky is so bright because the moon rose during the end of the exposure. The glowing embers from our camp fire created a nice warm glow foreground and a short burst of the lantern painted the tent.

If you look carefully you'll see three meteors (this was taken during the Perseid meteor showers).

No fish were harmed in the making of this photo (honestly).

7x SB-800s focused on the background at 1/128 power for a duration of roughly 1/40,000 sec. Camera was a D300 w/ 80-200mm 2.8 @ f/8, ISO 500.

This idea has been in my head for some time now. Thanks to Fielding, Kevin and John for helping to make this a reality.

Just shooting around with Kristina near the Truckee River on a day off.

Strobist info: Sb-800 to camera left slightly higher than model shooting through 43" white umbrella. Sun provided the highlight on the hair and was diffsued by the fall leafs.
