[From the National Archives in Kew, London] A photo of the "Bairak" (fighting troops) of the Beduin tribe Ruwallah in 1923 when they still were largely independent.

Handwritten in pencil on the back of the photo:
"Copy for Foreign Office only, please. The Flag marks about half-way along the line.
I fancy this is the only photo of the "Bairak" in [revere?] order ever obtained by a Britisher."

Original photo probably by the British Consul in Damascus, C. E. S. Palmer.
