A playful experience of polymer clay, using blue and gray blends and warm yellow and brown accents. All beads are arranged on a simple black steel cord. Kato clay.

This air-filled donut shows off subtle blends of blues, greens and grays separated by simple black stripes. The antiqued copper wire clasp and turquoise leather cord finish off this pendant. The back is solid black clay. Kato Clay.

A 2 x 2.5 inch streaked clay piece that has been impressed with a paper stencil to create texture. It was covered with silver embossing powder prior to curing. After it was cured, I used 600 grit sandpaper to wear off just enough embossing powder to give it an antiqued look. Kato Clay.

Worn Paint

This worn painted effect was made using torn strips of thin orange and yellow clay laid randomly over white clay. Next I rolled a threaded pipe over the top to create random stripes. After curing, I used brown and red acrylic paint to give an aged effect. A weathered stick and antiqued copper wire tie together the little carved clay bead on top with the worn paint rectangle. Premo clay.

A fun little pendant made of two polymer clay and two ceramic beads. The large round clay bead has been decorated with India Ink drawings. The middle clay bead is black with yellow acrylic paint in the random grooves. Premo clay

This dear little pendant is 1 x 2 inches and made using thin "watercolor" clay strips (Maggie Maggio's technique) over a rich blue clay background. I used black india ink to draw designs. The clay pendant hanges from a cylindrical horn bead and a few accent clay beads with a black leather cord. Premo clay

After curing the beads, I randomly wiped Gilders Paste (Iris Blue and Antique Gold by Baroque Art) over the surface of the beads. After drying for a minute or two, I used a soft cotton cloth to polish the surface.

Making a textured beads

I made a second Ultralight covered log. This time, I added long strips of striped clay leaving them raised for a textured effect. As you can see, I experimented a bit with different patterns. In the center photo all my beads are lined up ready for the oven.

Next I cut random strips of the striped clay placing them on top of a solid dark grey layer of clay. Then I used a single piece of deli paper and gently flattened the strips using the smooth knob. Sometimes I leave the strips raised a bit and sometimes I flatten it completely...depends on the look that I want.

Striped cane on white clay

Starting with a simple cane made from layers of clay. These layers are skinner blends of custom colors muted with mud (brown clay). I made very thin slices and laid them on top of an off white layer of clay. Kato clay

Wrapping Ultralight log

I like to use Sculpey Ultralight clay for the core of my beads. I rolled the Ultralight into a ball and then distribute it equally around a double ended knitting needle. Next I cut a piece of striped clay to wrap around the Ultralight. Carefully match each stripe to it's mate and gently roll it to seal the seam.

This fun little pendant has two faceted black clay beads with gold PearlEx powder. The triplet is topped with a dark ridged horn bead and several clay beads. All are hanging from a simple brass chain. Premo clay

Sedimentary Core pendant

Gilders Paste

A close up of how I apply Gilder's Paste. Here I am using Ancient Gold color. I dipped the cotton gauze into Mineral Spirits and then wiped the dried paste and it was much easier to work with. Notice that I also used vinyl gloves, which really saved my hands from getting messy!
