It's half term here - a week earlier than normal, I think - so my daughter can indulge her love of funky nails, which aren't acceptable (by school) during term time.

My mum has been looking for a new car for a little while. She found one this week: A different colour and newer, but the same model as her last one (she's a Vauxhall woman through and through!)

Yesterday afternoon the carbon monoxide detector in mum's sitting room went off. I was here alone, doing some ironing. I immediately opened doors and windows and called the Fire Service (as instructed on the alarm itself). They told me they 'don't do that anymore' and gave me the number for the Emergency Safety Dept in our area. They sent out someone who was here in around half an hour. He could find no trace of CO, but slapped these stickers on the boiler, meter, fire and cooker, and said we weren't allowed to use them until they'd been checked by a registered Gas person. Thank goodness the chap who does mum's annual services was around when we called later. He came straight out and checked everything over and switched the gas back on. It was very cold last night - we wouldn't have wanted to be without the central heating; but I have to admit going to the fish and chip shop for our dinner instead of cooking as I'd planned.

Yesterday, one of my longest-standing friends (as opposed to one of my oldest!) called round with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers for me. She said they were to say thank you, but I didn't do anything she wouldn't have done for me in the same circumstances. They are such subtle colours - I shall enjoy them all week. Thank you F xx.

I went to a party on Saturday evening. The theme was 'Bad Taste' ... you wouldn't believe the array of bad taste on display. A great time was had by all, so thank you to the host and hostesses for their hard work and hospitality.

Before I say anything about this image, I must just say a huge thank you to my Flickr friends for their kind comments, messages, emails, and even phone calls since my last upload. You are such lovely people, and I'm very lucky to have 'met' you all, albeit via the internet rather than in person. Thank you so much - x.

Over at Facebook, I'm taking part in a '2013 in Pictures' group. Some people are doing a 365, some are doing a 52, and some more still are representing their year in less structured uploads. Since my cameras are not yet available to me, I'm taking some pictures on my phone, and using Instagram to attempt to make them look a little less bad than they really are (although in reality, they aren't good at all). I decided that if any of them 'fitted' a subject in our 113 in 2013 group here at Flickr, I'd use them in that too, as a way to at least begin to take part. I intend to turn my Instagram shots into a little photo book at the end of the year, so I have a little 'album' on which to look back and see how the months panned out.

Anyway, I took this photo for my 2013 in Pictures project to show that at the start of the year I weighed this much. Amazing what stress will do for you, eh? I'd been trying to lose half a stone for months, with very little success. Along comes a whopping dose of stress, and I'm over a stone lighter in a very short space of time. Now I'm in the bizarre position of trying to put ON weight.

I realised this image fitted No.35 - Socks, in 113 in 2013, so am going to use it for that. These are handknitted socks - I can't do this kind of knitting, so someone who can, made them for me. I swapped my monkey-making skills, and made the knitter a monkey in return. Sorry about the quality of the photo: It does look a bit better on a black background, so either click on the image, ore press that 'L' key on your keyboard.

Hello. I've been gone for 3½ months now, during which time the kids and I have gone through a horrible experience. I don't really want to go into details here other than to say we lost our home and most of our belongings. I managed to save my cameras and lenses but they are currently in storage and I don't know when I will be able to use them again. I haven't taken a photo with anything other than my phone since August. Suffice it to say, I would like to see the back of 2012, and hope that 2013 turns out to be a fresh start in all respects.

The above photo (which is appalling quality compared to my usual uploads - sorry about that) was taken on 12th December this year, so I could use it for my poor neglected 112 in 2012 project - No.12: 12-12-12. I would like to complete this project eventually, and do have some shots taken this year to upload, but obviously all the remaining images will not have been taken in 2012. There is a new group for a new project next year. If you'd like to join in with a very friendly bunch of people, then pop along to 113 in 2013 and sign up.

I would like to thank the Flickr friends who messaged me to keep in touch and those who messaged to wish me a Merry Christmas. Thank you so much - I really appreciate it. Until this week, I had never photographed a baby before, but my lovely next door neighbours have a new addition to the family, and asked me to take some photos. Thus, I have a few shots of this little lady to upload - I want to check it's ok with her parents before I show you her face.
