35W Bridge at Night

The 35W bridge crosses the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is actually the new bridge, as the old one collapsed in 2007, killing 13 people and injuring 145.

The new bridge cost $234 million dollars, and was completed sooner than expected.

It still is a bit eerie crossing the bridge, knowing that the old one did collapse and people did die when it did happen.

One of the cool features of the new bridge is that they can change the color of the lights that illuminate the bridge; for Gay Pride, they made it light up like a rainbow.

A Budget Motel

Driving back from the Iowa State Capitol on Saturday night, I passed this old hotel with the neon sign lit up. I ended up turning back around and shooting it, as I never know when I'll be back and if it will exist still when I do come back.

The old trolley bridge at Como Park Golf Course is reflected in the calm pond near it. I'm guessing that at one time, the pond went under the bridge.

This is the new ride. It's a photo explorers' dream; it can hold a ton of gear, and up to 6 people. It's going to be making the trip to The Badlands this week with three other people. Welcome to the family, my new mini van friend.

Oh, and my daughter LOVES it. She used to want to take my wife's SUV everywhere over my old Mazda; now she wants to ride only in the van.
