- after some hard-headed processing with PicSay Pro, to save a hopeless snap taken hand-held in near-darkness (compare with SooC). Nothing special but I'm quite proud of the result - thanks to Sony phones and Android editors :)

It may feature a couple more times here as I pull random shots from the archive to play with editing apps. Took quite a few while walking past, no time to select the less-bad ones, whatever comes out gets processed - this time with Photoshop Touch.

Same building and vantage point as the previous BW shot, different look & feel; this one ~~a little~~ much closer to realistic colours and light (if not perspective and geometry :)

Proverbial London fog as described by Dickens, Conan-Doyle, and countless others. Studied all over the world in every textbook about this country - but, actually, rarely seen nowadays.

Shot in the warmer days preceding the current insanely cold weather, and processed when I found a few spare minutes.

I walk past this place every day - normally it (an old-people's home in my neighborhood) looks nice, peaceful and serenely green. But last night the fog and light drizzle made the contrejour floodlight particularly dramatic as I stepped into the point where it 'hides' behind the tree. Getting wet couldn't stop me from taking my phone out and taking a couple of shots (high noise, handshake and all) the scene was begging to be photographed.

I lived to take a sunrise shot! Thought I'd never get up this early (I'm a late night person) and I was very lucky to witness a very rare occurrence of that ball of light (known as the sun) in the usually grey English skies. Dirty window and train vibration didn't help great focus but there's always kitsch processing to cover this up, as the rare phenomenon was worth preserving...

No, I haven't mistyped the word - this is what the Italian restaurant owner and his chef brother called it when they played a practical joke on me.

When ordering, I said I'd skip the antipasti and I asked them to propose something cooked fast, as I had little time for dinner and was traveling early next morning to Barcelona.

'Barcelona?' - they winked at each other - 'Let's cook him a payela!' I was surprised they do paellas and, not getting the prank, asked 'But is it really fast?'

'Ready in seconds!' - and before I know it they hung a napkin on my chest and placed in front of me this enormous table-sized plate full of completely raw pasta, a pile of flour with a raw egg stuck on it, and some raw vegetables: ' Enjoy your payela, Sir! '

Took me a few seconds (during which they didn't laugh) to realise they had just served me the symbolic decoration from another corner of the place. A nice arrangement of raw ingredients representing the natural origins of the delicious things they cook...

Lots of laughter followed and, naturally, a few snaps as the sight was worth it.

No idea what these 'coal plates' are trey look like manhole covers but no man would pass through such hole (about the size of a vinyl LP or main course dish). And I didn't have to collect them all around town over a long time: stumbled upon quite a few within metres from each other in Queens Gate and Kensington High Street. What struck me was that in such a small area they were all different designs, by different makers and perhaps from different periods. An open-air Museum of the History of Coal Plates. Or is this what they are called?
