Santa Sofia I

► La iglesia de Santa Sofía, la Divina Sabiduría o Hagia Sophia, dedicada a la tercera persona de la Trinidad, es una de las obras más sublimes del arte bizantino. La construcción definitiva se llevó a cabo sobre la primitiva basílica de Constantino entre el 532 y el 537, durante el reinado de Justiniano, en el periodo conocido como "Primera Edad de Oro". Sus arquitectos realizaron un diseño sin antecedentes, tomando elementos conocidos (planta basilical y rotonda), pero que se unen en una estructura nueva.
Fue utilizada como iglesia cristiana durante casi mil años, desde su construcción hasta la conquista de Constantinopla por los turcos en 1453. Allí se refugiaron los aterrorizados habitantes en el ataque a la ciudad. Los otomanos la conviertieron en mezquita, agregando posteriormente los cuatro minaretes que hoy presenta, así como los medallones decorativos interiores. Se encuentra frente por frente a la Mezquita Azul y en 1935 fue convertida en museo.

► Hagia Sophia is a former Orthodox patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and to have "changed the history of architecture."
The current building was originally constructed as a church between 532 and 537 A.D. on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, and was in fact the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site.
In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and Sultan Mehmed II ordered the building to be converted into a mosque.[3] The bells, altar, iconostasis, and sacrificial vessels were removed, and many of the mosaics were eventually plastered over. The Islamic features — such as the mihrab, the minbar, and the four minarets outside — were added over the course of its history under the Ottomans. It remained as a mosque until 1935, when it was converted into a museum by the Republic of Turkey.
For almost 500 years the principal mosque of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia served as a model for many of the Ottoman mosques such as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque of Istanbul), the Şehzade Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque, the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, and the Kılıç Ali Paşa Mosque.

Como decíamos en fotos anteriores, Varsovia es como varias ciudades. Una de ellas, la perteneciente a un tiempo ya pasado, está magníficamente representada por el Palacio de la Cultura y las Ciencias, un rascacielos que regaló Stalin a la ciudad en 1955, situación que incomoda a muchos ciudadanos y al propio ministro de asuntos exteriores, que se pronunció a favor de la demolición de este magnífico edificio, digno representante de la arquitectura realista rusa. Con una altura de 230,7 metros, es el segundo rascacielos más alto de Varsovia (en 2012 será el cuarto) y uno de los más altos de Europa. Su estilo imita a la universidad rusa y alberga el centro de cultura y arte de la ciudad. En contraposición a la polémica, en 2007 fue declarado Patrimonio Nacional y símbolo de la ciudad.
