My favourite subject for portraits these days! Our boy Jack who is a Mini Golden Doodle!

Sorry everyone but I have been having problems with my Flickr account. Seems after having many problems paying for my pro account (which the money was removed from my Paypal account) for a two year subscription that Flickr has for some reason deleted my pro account without notice. Flickr HQ have not responded to my two emails about this issue in over a week and I'm not sure what to do next? If someone reads this from Flickr please help me sort this out? I can provide the date when my funds were removed to pay for my pro account! This stinks! PLEASE HELP me resolve this frustrating issue ASAP please.
(In fact I recently received a little refund from the overpayment of this subscription) I actually think it was paid for twice!!!!!

This is Mimi, Alvin's girlfriend who I watched for ages yesterday..I tried to see how close I could get to her...Funny how I can tell the difference between them...She has a more pointy nose lol ;) poor thing haha..

"Tamias is Greek for "treasurer", "steward", or "housekeeper", a reference to the animals' role in plant dispersal through their habit of collecting and storing food for winter use."

"The common name originally may have been spelled "chitmunk," from the native Odawa (Ottawa) word jidmoonh, meaning "red squirrel"
Let The Groove Get In

I happened upon a swans nest. This is the new expectant Father showing off for his lady in waiting ;) This young male let me get quite close to the nest as I was silent and respectful...That was until some nut case came by with his young boy who began throwing big stones at the nest..I freaked out that the father allowed his son do this. I couldn't hold my tongue and politely explained to the Father of the boy that the female swan was pregnant and on her nest..They quickly left thank goodness..How does a Father let his son do something like that is beyond me. Fortunately for me I watched the two swans for ages..afterward ;)

"The black knob at the base of the male Mute Swan's bill swells during the breeding season and becomes noticeably larger than the female's. The rest of the year the difference between the sexes is not obvious."

Have a great day everyone! I will catch up with everyone later on today! :)

"The actual name for the North American Buffalo is the Bison."
As massive and bulky as they appear, many people are under the impression that bison are slow and awkward. In reality, bison can outrun and easily out-maneuver most horses. They have the agility of a deer. And if on the run, they can easily break through seemingly adequate corrals. Bison are lightning fast and can run for many miles. They can sprint upwards of 40-miles per hour and have the ability to jump straight up from a complete standstill. Much like a mountain goat, a bison can traverse rough, rocky terrain. At the same time, they are content on the flat prairies many call home.
Although bison are normally quite docile and may allow people to approach them, they can be unpredictable and may charge people or machines in the blink of an eye. They can pivot on their hind feet as well as their front feet and are incredibly fast."

Enjoy this little Black-capped Chickadee.

"A bird almost universally considered “cute” thanks to its oversized round head, tiny body, and curiosity about everything, including humans. The chickadee’s black cap and bib; white cheeks; gray back, wings, and tail; and whitish underside with buffy sides are distinctive. Its habit of investigating people and everything else in its home territory, and quickness to discover bird feeders, make it one of the first birds most people learn."

Have a great day everyone!

flipkeat posted a photo:

This raccoon has been frequenting our backyard now for awhile. I see it often scrounging around the bottom of our birdfeeders..looking for something to nibble on. A few weeks ago I noticed he had a bum hind leg so we called Animal Control. They have come twice but he always manages to be high up a tree by the time they arrive. His leg has healed and he can walk on it but he still limps a wee bit.

I have wanted a shot like this for some time now so I can take this pose off my "to get" list;)

The raccoon gets its name from the Algonquin word arakun which means "one who scratches with his hands."

"1.Raccoons have apposable thumbs.
2.They have 40 teeth.
3.They will never den farther than 1,200 feet from water.
4.They do not hybernate, but they will sleep for weeks at a time.
5.They are not always nocturnal.
6.A Raccoon seen during the day is NOT necessarily sick, they are most likely searching for food. 7.They never build their own dens, they use abandoned ones.
8.There are 6 species of Raccoons in th U.S.
9.Most coons have their litters in early February to late March.
10.A litter usually consist of 1-7 young.
11.Most Raccoons have 4-5 rings on their tails.
12.Baby raccoons are called "Kits" or "Cubs".
13.Babies can over-eat when nursing.
14.There has never been a case of rabies being transmitted from a Raccoon to a human.
15.More dogs have rabies than Raccoons.
16.The life-span of a Raccoon is about 6 years in the wild and 14 years in captivity.
17.The oldest reported Raccoon lived to be 21 years old in captivity.
18.The heaviest weight for a Raccoon was 99 lbs.19.Raccoon means: disguise, curiousity, and dexterity.
20.Although many people believe that coons wash their food, what they are really doing is getting it wet because their hands are much more sensitive in water.
21.Raccoons are diurnal, meaning that they live above ground or below ground, or even in trees."

I have been going through old photos and found this one of old Blue Eyes ;)
Portait of this beautiful Blue Jay...a lovely passerine bird.

"The Blue Jay frequently mimics the calls of hawks, especially the Red-shouldered Hawk. These calls may provide information to other jays that a hawk is around, or may be used to deceive other species into believing a hawk is present."

Have a great weekend everyone. I will catch up later on..Today is my Husbands 50th birthday busy day

Whenever I see these beauties I think of my friend Claudio who sees so many beautiful birds but not this one lol ;)

"The male Northern Cardinal is perhaps responsible for getting more people to open up a field guide than any other bird. They’re a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style: a shade of red you can’t take your eyes off. Even the brown females sport a sharp crest and warm red accents. Cardinals don’t migrate and they don’t molt into a dull plumage, so they’re still breathtaking in winter’s snowy backyards. In summer, their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning."

I like this little shot of my good buddy Alvin the Eastern Chipmunk! I am always wanting to shoot him up close and personal but for fun I recently had this one enlarged and it looks great so here it is for you to see!

"Chipmunks are quite vocal. People walking in the woods do not always realize that they are hearing chipmunks, for some of the cries that chipmunks make are like bird chirps."

"Biologists have not yet determined the meaning of all the chipmunk’s many calls. For example, when a chipmunk is startled, it runs quickly along the ground giving a rapid series of loud chips and squeaks. Perhaps this sudden burst of noise startles predators, helping the chipmunk to escape. Also, chipmunks frequently call with a high-pitched chip or chuck repeated over and over at intervals of one or two seconds. This scolding noise is often made by a chipmunk watching an intruder from a safe vantage point. Some scientists think that it may also be the mating call of the female chipmunk."

Have a great day everyone! :)

"At least 11 subspecies of Canada Goose have been recognized, although only a couple are distinctive. In general, the geese get smaller as you move northward, and darker as you go westward. The four smallest forms are now considered a different species: the Cackling Goose."

Went to see The Who last night here in Toronto on their Quadrophenia and More Tour at the ACC Toronto, November 23rd, 2012! THEY STILL ROCKED the house! (Vintage Trouble were awesome)

Don't you love that CUP OF TEA in Roger's hand? ;) and that guitar pic in Pete's hand they look like they are playing at home;)

"The Who are an English rock band formed in 1964 by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon,. They became known for energetic live performances which often included instrument destruction."

flipkeat posted a photo:

I am going through Alvin withdrawl so I thought I'd share this one today..I think this is one of the last times I have seen my little buddy Alvin for the year. I sure hope he makes it through the winter months..I'm at least happy knowing he has lots of food in this burrow ;) This photo is not cropped!

"The Eastern chipmunk looks a lot like a small, striped, reddish-brown squirrel with a white belly. Some squirrels do have stripes, but chipmunks have five dark stripes and several white ones, some of which stretch onto the head. Male and female chipmunks look alike."

"These rodents' front feet have four toes. The back ones have five."

"Chipmunk cheek pouches are made of stretchy skin so the animal can stuff them with food — a handy way to carry lots of goodies off to its burrow. The pouches get larger as the chipmunk gets older."

Have a great weekend everyone!!
