Robo Afro: TD Detail 3.

I think will be my last sneaky peaky of a piece from the new works for the show in Milk Gallery, Istanbul. Its Watercolours on Heavy 300Gsm Paper stock and 50.8cm x 40.6cm.

This photograph is at a strange angle, so the head is a little forshortened. But seeing as the new short hair went down well I have tried out something a little seventies, a ROBO AFRO. In the full picture she is sat upon a huge diamond like the one in here hand. This will be available at the show.

The show is called Tiny Diamonds, the idea is that there are crystals/diamonds that power the earth and they have been stolen by an unknown force, so the Robo Girls are after the missing crystals/diamonds.

Right, phew jet lagged and slowly try to get through sleep deprivation that turns to over sleeping, but New York city was amazing!

Had a blast trying to make my aching feet go another few blocks to see something else and drink and eat somewhere esle better than the last great place. Lots got done and now I am exhausted.

Regarding the show, MASSIVE thanks to Vince and Bik at My Plastic Heart they are lovely, lovely people. Very generous with their time and their help and everything, couldn't have literally done it without them. if you get a chance to go to NYC and fancy a chat about stuff with lovely folks, these are the two to go to.

Got to shout out to Steve and Lou. Steve posted these lovely snaps of my resin Kichi online even befoee I had got home and I have got a really posotive response from people since, so thanks. To Lou, my brother from another mother, made it a laugh and introduced me to everyone. We had a good time ribbing each other and laughing out loud. To anyone I was introduced to and havent mentioned here, thanks for coming down it was much appreciated.

Lastly to my missus. Who's birthday was the real reason we were in NYC and encouraging me to try and get a show while we were there and not minding me hijacking her trip. Cheers D xx.

Last, but not least, just to explain that this here image above (best viewed a little larger) is of one of my Dead Japanese Ghost Girl Warriors, sculpted by the hugely talented friend of mine called Simin Mahoney, his own stuff is usually a little more traditional/crazy in scale and medium, but he literally can sculpt anything. I posted this the day before the lauch and got an earful from Richt, that I was ruining the surprise, so I am uplaoding this image again. I have no snaps of the launch at all and I aim to get to the gallery when I can to get some of the paintings in place.

Anyway, the show was a blast thanks to everyone who came down and made it fun.

Big thanks to all at Upperspace, Barney, Jon, Sarah and all the rest who chipped in.

This is the state of my front room a few days ago, in preparation for the new show with fellow artists Richt and China Mike.

Never, ever will I book in two shows in a month. Its ridiculous! Long days and longer nights with my Lady being very patient. as this is a shot of our living room. There will be the launch of the Dead Japanese Ghost Girls Warriors in their entirety. There are these 9 original paintings. Six 42 x 59cm pieces on recyled grey board, that will all be framed and sold framed.

Two 120 x 90 cm canvasses with one 90 x 150cm canvas. With a huge 8ft x 5 ft canvas that will be painted in the gallery.

Also I will be releasing the 6 prints that made up the Carhartt show in limited editions and smaller at A2, rather than the one off A0's that made up that show. They will be Giclees like the last Series I did an available from the shop after the launch.

This is the piece that I shown the sketch for yesterday. I am calling the show Black Rust, which is what this says. If you are in Manchester on Friday or any other day after that check out the work in the store. Its on Oldham Street and it will be up for a while after the launch. Free Beer and Gear at the opening apparently what better reason do you guys need? Ay!

Its also going to be a limited edition A2 Giclee on Innova soft textured paper stock available from my SHOP. I haven't uploaded them on there yet, I will do after the show, but if you are interested in one let me know and I will put you down on the pre-order list.

I cant wait to see them all framed up, they arrive today! Whoop. All A0 and massive!

This is one of the girls I refined from an old sketch to make one of the new images for the launch of the Dead Japanese Ghost Girl Warriors.

I have added her braces and teeth in the finished colour one which I will post tomorrow, (sorry 45) don't want to show all of the images before the launch at Carhartt Manchester this Friday. They will be printed for the show as A0 gicclees and available after that I am going to print them at A2 as limited editions so if you are keen, drop me an email at info@guymckinley.com to pre-order they will be around £80 each.

I was so happy the way she turned out and the finished piece is one of my fave pieces I have ever done.

Here is another Nearly Ugly Girl. When the light gets too bad to do any painting. I got to do this instead, don't know why its easier to draw/paint with ink in flourescent light, than it is with paint. I think its harder to see if you have got good coverage with paint and it shows next day when you have good daylight on it.

Anyway. I put an pink acrylic wash down on a fairly tight sketch and then went to town with the Indian ink. This is all brush work and available to you the public at a very reasonable price of £90 without P&P

The show is called Tiny Diamonds, the idea is that there are crystals that power the earth and they have been stolen by an unknown force, so the Robo Girls are after the missing crystals/diamonds. Most of the images are them posing with them after gathering them up. Either way its a nice excuse to get lots more colour in there. COLOUR OVERLOAD!

I gave a few sneaky shots of this a few posts back of the actual prints themselves. This is the digital original before it was produced, just cause I cant take a decent clear shot with my camera.

Its is my limited edition 3 colour screen print for the New york show I have running in My Plastic Heart they are only available from Vince online or if you pop in the store. So if you want one you will have to get in touch with him.

The edition is only 35 prints they are all printed on lovely off white heavy paper stock and are signed and numbered by me and produced by the lovely Norm at WASTE . Cheers Norm!

This is a snap of my massive 8ft x 6 ft piece I painted in Dublin this weekend. I had a lovely time for the most part, the travel was a nightmare though, we were delayed on the ferry on the way back, landed in Hollyhead 2 hrs later than scheduled. When we did hit the road in England to come back to my bed we were flashed by the speed cameras and then pulled by the police. The gods wanted me to be a complete wreck for the rest of the week, got home around 4.30am. Big thanks for the driving Senor Rock.

Because of the weather every piece of Artwork was painted inside a huge empty shop unit, which added a strange dimension. Plenty of people to catch up with, was nice to see all the Irish fellas and fellettes. And good to meet new faces. Also a shout to Spearfish for sorting it all out, I felt for them as the rain continued, but it turned out fine in a way. Also lots of love goes to the Portugese, Happy Birthday Pinnochio.

I think thats about it other than to remind folk if they are anywhere near Copnhagen and the old Doodletown now www.mohs.dk/ gallery to come down and see some new works of mine and lots of other great artists as part of DOT THE EYES 3 . Opening on Friday at 5pm. Will post some snaps afterwards. Though I may be retiring from travel if I have anything near as many problems as getting to and from Ireland.

Diesel Wall All

This was a window me and Miss Led painted this weekend for Diesel. Was a lovely day, but it was hot in there. She will kill me for putting her in the photos, but Miss Led is there for scale everyone, she was a good giggle and we laughed are way through our glass prison. (apart from the snap at the top, this was, in reality, pretty much her reaction face to all the abuse I was giving her) It was a bugger to get a decent snap of it as we were so close inside and outside was sunny so you only got reflection. Not like Manchester at all, normally its all overcast and I could have got a decent shot. Ah well, will have to go down when its pissing down. Try it in the bigger version for a better view!

This is another from a sketch in the Nearly Ugly series. I am trying to do a few new girls in a set style. I wanted them to look unconventionally beautiful.

"My girlfriend is a huge fan of Americas Next Top Model and while I watch it I am always surprised which ones make the best photographs. SO I tried something based on that. This is the one that looks like one of the contestants on there, the one called Brittany."

This is not a straight on shot so you may not thinks so. I may post up the colour version with a straight on shot. this is just a photo from a page of my sketchbook.

This is from a sketch I did the other night. I am trying to do a few new girls in a set style. I wanted them to look unconventionally beautiful. I am calling them Nearly Ugly.

My girlfriend is a huge fan of Americas Next Top Model and while I watch it I am always surprised which ones make the best photographs. SO I tried something based on that. I have to admit out of all the ones I have drawn, this girl is THE most conventionally good looking one. There are more and one of them one even looks a lot like one of the contestants on there, the one called Brittany.

Anyhoo there will be more, I just had to throw a bit of colour at this one. I am trying to have unconventional colours on them too..but as anyone who knows my colour schemes I am a sucker for PINK!

Whilst painting the birdies, I had a go at a quick Robo Girl. I think she is quite nice. I like the loose hair stokes, with the details inside.

She is also A3 original acrylic paintings on heavy 200gsm archival/acid free paper stock. For sale via myself @ guymckinley.bigcartel.com.

Ideal for Xmas.

This is the first detail close up of the hair on one of the unfinished canvasses in that shot of my front room. These are two of many birds in amongst the hair of one of my Anti Gravity Head Girls. There will be more details in days to come.
