a young Constable, speared to death on Woodah Island, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, in 1933.
see previous pic for the 1933 headstone.
This marker was added at the foot of the grave in 2003.
If ever you're going to get the placement of an apostrophe correct, I would have thought that a gravemarker would have been one of the most solemn opportunities to do so ...

Albert Stewart McCOLL -
a young* Constable, speared to death on Woodah Island, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, in 1933.
His attacker was convicted of murder, but succeeded in an appeal, because the conduct of his defence was marked by serious irregularities.
There was a further commemoration of Const McCOLL's death in 2003; see next pic.
*young: he was 30 years of age: seems young to me ...

Nicholas WATERS, d.1924 -
for many years, Mr WATERS was Second-in-Command of the Northern Territory Division of the South Australian mounted Police. He became Inspector of the Division (in charge) when Insp FOELSCHE retired in 1904.

My boys are 5 & 6 y.o.
They aren't much use as scale here, because the wall where the bat is suspended is more than a metre behing the handrail. I took Pic 1 by holding this handrail, and leaning out as far as I could, holding the camera one-handed. The bat is the fairly non-descript dark mark near the top of this pic.

Australia, Darwin, East Point Gun Turret:
I took my boys to the East Point Military Museum. We were looking at the lower level of the WW2 Gun Turret, when I saw a tiny figure resting high in a recess set back from the main working area.
I don't know much about bats. Living in Darwin, I see lots of large bats flying overhead in the evenings, but I'm happy if they keep their distance ...
Anyway, I have no idea what species this one is. I can't say if it's an example of a very small species, or a juvenile of a larger species.
I had to hang out over a handrail to get this shot. In my estimation, the overall "height" of this fellow was 45~50mm, as seen in the pic.
I'd like to point out that he has somehow got a grip on a fairly smooth, vertical concrete surface. If you look closely at the pic, I think you'll agree that he's "in the corner", but not actually in contact with the ceiling.
It was daytime outside, but reasonably gloomy where this pic was taken.

Art Deco advertizing on grave memorial

it is not uncommon for graves that have some memorial on them, to carry a label, etc identifying the mason who did the work. Whilst one might explain this in a variety of ways, at the end of the day, it amounts to advertizing. Every such label that I have seen is quite subtle - in size, colouration, and placement.
Nevertheless, this one caught my eye because of the Art Deco elements in the aluminium label.
The label is at the foot of the grave, which is occupied by a husband & wife who passed away in 1952 & 1970. The epitaph suggests that the memorial was contructed before 1970.

as I recall, there was some controversy before the Trustees of the Cemetery allowed this memorial to be constructed, but I can't recall the details.
See Pic 1 for a close-up of the central memorial.
I believe that the surrounding structure, which is artificial, is called a "grotto".
grotto: maybe that's not the correct word - I may have to stand corrected on that.

EVEL VT and matching trailer

Bonus, towing trailer with matching number.
In Victoria, trailers below a certain size do not need to be registered, but have to display the number of the towing vehicle. When you hire a trailer, the practise is to write the number in chalk, on the tailgate.

Phillip island penguin warning - "check under your car"

Australia, Phillip Island: after taking my boys to the "Penguin Parade", which finishes very late, we were walking back to my car. Signs such as this were spread around the car park. Indeed, just as we got to our car, a Ranger was dealing with a recalcitrant penguin under another car. Photography of penguins is not permitted, and the Rangers enforce this rule ruthlessly.
I believe these figures - the car and the penguin - both qualify as "stick figures".
I see room for debate as to whether either or both of them qualify as "in peril", or as "having the situation under control".
What is not clear, is what end the sign is ultimately directed to:
- prevent cars driving over penguins;
- prevent penguins escaping, by clinging to the underside of cars;
- prevention of car-jacking by penguins who have hidden under the car, then strike when the unsuspecting driver thinks that he is out of the Penguin Danger Zone.
Or, of course, all of the above.
And, I appreciate the wisdom of checking under my car BEFORE driving away, as opposed to otherwise.
Sorry for the lighting, etc. A Ranger was tagging me, to make sure that I wasn't pretending to photograph the sign, whilst surreptitiously seeking an opportunity to illegally get a pic of a penguin: most off-putting at that late hour.

looking for something else, this headstone caught my eye. I have a GRIFFITHS connection, but have not yet established that I am connected to these GRIFFITHS.
Polly appears to have been a music teacher.
John's friends &/or family thought it important to record in marble that he was a, or the, "late Truant Officer of Melbourne".
