Once the Mississippi River water that overfilled this oxbow lake (abandoned Miss. River meander) started flowing it <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDGjZ_jOYsw" rel="nofollow">tore the levee material loose</a> and dumped it into the alluvial plain (see outtake). Most of the flooded area was uninhabited farmland. However, a few very unfortunate families lost their homes to the water. <br /> <br /> The town of Lake Providence was protected by a newer and much higher levee southwest of the blow out. <br /> <br /> I couldn't get far enough away to capture the entire breach in one shot.
