Dyrhólaey, a spectacular promontory in southern Iceland near the town of Vik. This is one of my favourite places in Iceland, it has a special feeling about it. The views from the top are amazing. To the west the coastline stretches for miles, to the north there are mountains and the glacier Mýrdalsjökull, to the east there's a sweeping black sand beach and the rock stacks of Reynisdrangur. When it's not too windy you can walk out on a spur 100 metres high that reaches out to sea over a large archway eroded through the rock.

This was taken from a small cove amidst the rugged cliffs that teem with nesting birds from May-July, including the delightful puffin.

A washing line in southern Iceland.

Taken with the Sigma 35mm prime, the first of Sigma's new 'Art' line of lenses that aim to compete with the best from Canon and Nikon. The lens has been getting almost unreserved praise in reviews, with DxO Mark suggesting the lens sets a new benchmark for this focal length.

I used it a lot in Iceland, and whether it's wide open or stopped down it always performed beautifully, lots of contrast and detail, almost three dimensional results. This image (a vertorama made up of two horizontal images) was shot at f/1.4. I've never had a lens so usable wide open.

Part of Iceland's 'ring road', Route 1, heads toward a looming mountain as loose soil is blown across the roads by high winds.

This is made up of six different images shot with an 85mm prime and combined as a montage in Photoshop.

A close up of one of Iceland's prettiest waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss in the south of Iceland. Through the spray you can see behind the falls where there's a footpath. Taken with a 200mm prime.

Another angle on the waterfall Seljalandsfoss. Getting this close to the thundering torrent on a wet and windy day turned out not to be a great idea for the camera but I managed to get a couple of shots in before starting to worry about all that moisture.

Since it seems Flickr is not going to fix the problem of blurry images on the photo pages I thought this would be an appropriately blurry upload.

The same location as this shot but with a wider view. This image is made up of six separate frames to get the whole scene from land rather than having to step into the Atlantic ocean!

Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland's many famous waterfalls. Like nearby Skógafoss it is about 200ft tall, but has a smaller volume of water flowing over it. What makes Seljalandsfoss so popular, apart from its picturesque setting, is that you can go behind it, although you will get very wet, especially on the day I was there, when high winds kept swirling the clouds of spray in unpredictable directions. For a sense of scale just to the right of the falling water you should be able to see a red dot, which is a person on the path to the back of the falls.

I shot this in daylight using a ten-stop ND filter for a 2 second exposure time. The image is made up of two separate vertical frames stitched together.

Skógafoss is one of the largest and most popular waterfalls in Iceland. With water falling 200ft down the face of what was once a sea cliff the noise can be deafening. It's an impressive sight!

Reyniskirkja is a church in Iceland, near the southern town of Vik. It's built against Mt. Reynisfjall on the road down to Reynisfjara, a sweeping black sand beach.

Another photo from Skógafoss, one of the largest and most popular waterfalls in Iceland. The figures standing near the falls help add some scale to this one though they are standing some distance from the front of the waterfall, you can see how much spray is being generated by the water, standing too close means a complete soaking!

The white dots along the cliff face are birds, the place is teeming with them!

This is shot with a 200mm prime lens using a ten-stop ND filter to achieve an 8 second exposure during daylight. It is made up of four individual frames combined like a panorama in Photoshop.

Waterfall, Iceland

I don't remember the name of this shallow but wide waterfall. It's off route 1, east of Selfoss. I know I'd remember the name if I heard it! This was my last day in Iceland and the clouds were spectacular.

Just found out this is called Urriðafoss, thanks for the tip Dirko. Unfortunately it seems likely to be destroyed by an underground hydro plant.

This is a 'vertorama' image, two frames shot at the same location and stitched together vertically.
