A tad to the south of the heart of Virginia, more like. Taken from a moving car somewhere between Marion, VA and Mouth of Wilson, VA, on the border with North Carolina. The Blue Ridge mountains are all around, but out of sight here. The south of VA has plenty of National Forest areas, and is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever seen.

Taken with an old Apple iPhone 3G. I am using it as a camera for now, before trashing it.

blizzard 2009

It's been a cold year in some ways, a very cold year, and this blizzard that hit us today really drove things home. I'm back stateside and I love the snow. I love it's quiet. But from the 23rd floor in Falls Church, Virginia, it's a fairly apocalyptic scene. Gusts of white stuff obscuring everything, flurries in every direction, distant neon. Empty streets. Only snow and lights - from deserted stores. They brighten the arctic grey sky above at night. It's a pretty strange landscape to wake up to, I'll tell you that. And if you're in Bavaria or Iceland and about to crack up over this, I tell you: it sure is a blizzard! We don't get too many of those round these parts.

The DC Metro Area has been buried, ladies and gents, and it's too cold for flowers.

Haven't posted pictures in a while. It's been a weird few months. Hoping to have something worth showing soon.. glad many of you guys are still going strong.

Francs Scott Key Bridge, from DC to VA, the gateway to the city, if you cross it going North. If you walk it going South, it is the entry point to the Commonwealth of Virginia, and freedom.

Wayne and The Egyptian

Picking with the legendary Wayne Henderson at his farmhouse, deep south in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This was taken by a friend's wife. Day after the bluegrass festival held here annually. In the background is Allen, who wrote the book about Eric Clapton's Henderson guitar. The rest are friends and enthralled visitors.

I was holding a very rare 1938 Martin here, found lying on the couch. Was pretty rare in those parts, myself.

Have you ever realized how there are not many TV shows called "Good Afternoon, America"? But every other show is a good morning this and good morning that. Good morning good morning. What a bunch of jokers. The afternoon is not as metaphorically romantic as the morning, eh? Rubbish.

Good Afternoon, sweethearts.

Anyway, this is what happens when people decide to live on the 23rd floor of a building in green, green VA, and invite me over. You are observing a 'tarboush' [fez]. The Ottoman period saw Egypt under Turkish rule, and I am lording over the expanses of this magnificent state: the Commonwealth of Virginia - so the photo is full of romantic metaphor of course.

The winter can be pretty too, but alas not with my compact canon. 10 MP my ass. Bu then, hiking on rocks at 1:00am in the forest with a DSLR would also not be the best of ideas. Sadly we had no full moon that day due to the clouds (and it snowed!), but you can still see how beautiful the river was.
