What makes the Gile unique is that it is the largest Laurientian Shield lake in Wisconsin. Most of the shoreline is ancient exposed bedrock and the Flowage is dotted with bedrock islands reminiscent of the Boundary Waters and Quetico canoe­country region of northern Minnesota.
