Been having some Flickr problems...
Personally, I think the butterflies are in some way responsible... but I have no proof!!

Does anyone recognize this texture? I downloaded it but can't find the info to give credit.

Last Lily Floating

This gorgeous, gigantic (about a foot across) lily blossom was the last photo I will ever take with my Cannon camera... a few minutes later I dropped my camera on the cement walkway and it died. This pic seemed so appropriate - a great swan song for an old friend that went everywhere with me!
Ironically, it will serve as my first pic back to Flickr after a very long stay away.
A special thanks to all who sent me messages and notes inquiring into my well being. I understand that you feared something might have happened to me (especially considering my very dicey relationship with the butterfly community!)
But I am back!
I will stop by to visit over the next week, and will not be posting on a regular basis yet, but I missed you and your beautiful photos, so I just had to drop by and send my love! :)

Have you ever noticed that Spring has it's own heartbeat and soul... I can feel it even before the flowers appear.
The Camellia seems to encompass all of this - lush, fragrant, multi-layered, tender yet strong. The heartbeat of Spring which touches my soul each year.

This photo seemed so symbolic for the first night of Passover as we celebrate the parting of the seas as the Israelites fled Egypt.
Many other religions are celebrating today too.
So regardless of your religious affiliation, let us celebrate following a path of freedom, love and joy.

The Blue Poppies are blooming at Longwood Gardens.
This is a rare plant and only blooms for 2 weeks each year.
This plant definitely warrants a road trip!

At The Grounds For Sculpture many famous paintings have been reproduced as sculptures throughout the beautiful landscape. You can literally walk into paintings that you have only been able to view framed on the wall.
You don't have to imagine my grandsons' delight at this opportunity, as you can see it clearly on their faces!
I'm not sure what was funnier... their expressions and conversation, or the look of dismay on their parents' faces - especially when other visitors came within hearing!!!
I remembered back to the conversations my boys would have and delighted in the realization that if you wait long enough you do get a certain satisfaction from seeing your kids squirm the same way you did because of them.
Is that wrong of me?

Either way, Poppy and I had a really great day!

For those looking for butterflies and macro flowers... they will soon be back.

Poppy's Birthday Weekend Part 2

Yes, I know this is very hard to see - and I had my camera on full zoom ... I just wanted you to have the same experience that I did that night.

So here's the story...
Poppy requested we go to a Doo Wopp Rock and Roll Concert for his birthday. What can I say - the man loves his 50's music!
So my kids agreed to join him - even without wearing bags over their heads so no one would recognize them!
This concert was a sell out, so we were only able to get tickets in the last row in the nose bleed section. That really turned out to be a good thing as this was definitely one of those times when a close up view would not have enhanced the experience. The men in this photo said they had been doing this for 53 years... the sound was the same, but sadly, even rock and roll stars age - which I have no problem with in person, but prefer to have my memories stay young!
LOL!!!!!

All went smoothly.
No one was allowed to buy more than one beer at a time (more than one beer would be too much mixed with all the meds the audience was on.)
Periodically they scanned the crowd with lights ( you never know when you would find someone who needed a medic).
They did bring out a stool for one of the stars who was having trouble standing. ( and I held my breath while he struggled to get on it - but since it was too high for him he finally gave up trying and actually was able to remain upright through the rest of his set)
And yes, after the concert the line to retrieve the electric wheelchairs was long, but everyone was so thrilled to still be alive to enjoy that good old rock and roll that no one seemed to mind!!

So all told, we had a great time. Poppy got his groove on and sang every song at the top of his lungs. He twisted the night away. He had his pic taken with one of the Hall of Famers, and even got a special T-shirt to commemorate the occasion.

This group is the Contours.. or the Commodores... or the Ink Spots... Who can remember? LOL!

A Party For Your Face

After we ate barbecue at a place that claims it's food is a "party for your face" we shared cupcakes and birthday cake with Poppy - all 6 kids and 9 grandkids got to stuff their faces with cup cakes with names like Chocolate Mounds, Razzle Dazzles, Reeses Riots, Toasted Almonds, Boston Crèmes, Pink Flamingos, Chocolate Overdoses, Death By Chocolates, Coconut Dreams, Red Velvets and more - all from the Sugar Bakery, a local cupcake store that won the Food Channel's Cupcake Wars!
You can see the eager faces of 5 of the children waiting to dig into their treats in the background of this shot.
And this was just the beginning of a weekend of celebration for Poppy's 70th birthday!
Happy Birthday Poppy!!!
