The crowd watching Clinic at the Barbican Centre. They plated int he lower foyer following the Residents concert in the main auditorium. This shot is looking down one floor at the back of Clinic's crowd.

Part of the display of nineteenth century figureheads on a wall in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich - a place that we wandered into out of passing interest and were entranced by. This image of three serious looking people and a duck rather caught the eye. From left to right these are the figures from HMS Frederick William, HMS Atalanta and HMS Horatio. The bird is from HMS Gannet (the artist has gone for a duck/gannet hybrid)

A lancet window in the north wall of St Nicholas' church in Great Wilbraham in Cambridgeshire. a note in the visitor's book says that this is by Christopher Whall (1849–1924), a major name in English glass from the late nineteenth century. However, I haven't found anything to confirm if this is by him

A section of the marble effect wall in one of the cubicles in the gents toilet on the lowest floor of the Sofitel near Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport in London. On closer inspection I noticed what looks like a bearded man looking out of a shrimp (or a moon or a wave). People of a particular bent might get all religious about this, though to my eye it looks a little like Northampton's late lamented songwriter and storyteller, Tom Hall

The bronze head of the Israeli shipping magnate Sammy Ofer in the wing of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich that he funded (and which bears his name). Ofer (Samuel Herskovich) was born in Romania and moved at a young age to Haifa, in what was then Palestine. After the war he started the shipping business that was to make him the richest man in Israel. His other philanthropy included the renovation of the Cutty Sark in Greenwich following the fire in 2007 and a large stadium in his home town. He died in 2011

Jane Ackroyd's sculpture of a herring gull in Narrow Street in Poplar, east London. The human sized bird has a delirious, mad joy in its eye. It is not, as one of our group thought, a 'big chicken'. The plaque on the base dates this to 1994

Supports on the river Thames at Wapping. The tide here rises some 20 feet or more meaning that at high tide these great logs are completely submerged.

One of London's hidden street names. The name seems to relate to the Duke of Buckingham. The family lived at York House on the south side of the Strand. When the area was sold to developers in 1672, a condition was that streets should be named after every element of the Duke's name, hence the nearby George Street, Villiers Street, Duke Street and Buckingham Street (Villiers and Buckingham Streets still exists). More unusually, there was also Of Alley. This was renamed in the 19th century, but local pressure made the council keep the mention of the previous name. 21st century Of Alley is a rather malodourous nook tucked just to the left of Charing Cross station (off Villiers Street). Although passersby are discretely warned not to tip or dump, several seem to have exploited the absence of a prohibition on peeing.

Summerhill Graden Centre, just off the A127 at Basildon. The sign (politely) asks people to refrain, whilst the statues are rather free with their bodies and skimpy clothing. We resisted, had scampi and chips and bought a stay to hold up the peonies in the garden.

A small herd of bullocks on Coldhams Common in Cambridge - an area of common grazing now entirely surrounded by the city. Despite the signpost, the animals seem to lack direction and choose instead to stand across the paths in a passive aggressive attempt to inconvenience and unsettle cyclists. I probably would too in their situation. Cambridge Utd's ground is visible in the background

One of the apartment blocks on the Victoria Dock in Silvertown in London as seen from the cable car over the Thames. The sun lined up nicely to project the reflection from the glass straight back onto the water
