The mezuzah, a parchment scroll with biblical verses, is affixed to the doorposts in Jewish homes. In Morocco, the scroll is rolled and covered by an elaborately embroidered fabric holder. The techniques and motifs are similar to those used in other Sephardic North African ceremonial textiles, such as tefillin bags. They were often embroidered by the bride as a gift to her bridegroom. Here, the embroidered decoration includes the bride's name, Rina Malka.
