An art show that I did a couple of weeks ago (Gosport Arts Festival) was held near the riverfront in Portsmouth, VA. This area of the city is really nice along the water with quaint walkways, shops and good restaurants. We spotted this boat tied up along the water and immediately liked it's name :)

Another from Monday afternoon. It was a cloudy, misty day, but despite the drab weather we wanted to get outside and head to the beach anyway. There was a little swell hanging around and I was able to capture a few moody surf-inspired snaps. I was tempted to get in the water myself, but time didn't really allow it. Been feeling that itch to get in the water lately, especially now that it's starting to warm up. But with a big art show coming up this weekend, there's not much time to spare this week. Hopefully soon…

It's been f o r e v e r since I took my camera out and shot anything. Work and art shows have been keeping me really busy this month. Work is finally back to normal and I had some extra time yesterday afternoon, so we went down to the beach to see what we could capture. It was kind of a cloudy, misty day, but it was good to be out with the camera again.

The tide was high while we were down there and we noticed how the surf would hit the sand berm and splash upward. It was difficult to time it and my legs almost gave out on me, but at least I came away with one good image :)

*I had no idea they were gonna be updating the look of flickr. Might take me a bit to get used to it and find everything, but overall I think the new look is pretty cool.

We've shot this field of grass a few times before. This time it had some pretty little yellow flowers blooming all around. It was Andrezza's birthday and I had got her a new camera, so we just HAD to go out and shoot something :)

Andrezza took this a couple of weeks ago at different art show I was doing in the East Beach area of Norfolk, VA. She went exploring with her new camera and found this bench sitting in this lovely atmosphere. This area of Norfolk used to be run-down and ugly. But over the last few years they have built brand new, beautiful houses, gorgeous landscaping and created something out of a Coastal Living magazine. It's really a great area for an art show.

I'm back…at least for today :) I've recovered from the art show this past weekend and now things are more normal at work too. So hopefully I'll be able to be more active on here again. This is a snapshot of my booth from the Gosport Arts Festival in Portsmouth, VA this past weekend. We were kind of unsure how it was going to be because there was the threat of rain most of the day on Saturday, but thankfully the rain stayed away until later in the evening. Then Sunday morning it rained a while, causing us to have to open a little later. But after the rain stopped, Sunday turned into a beautiful day. The crowd was down somewhat because of the weather, but we had a fun time anyway. One of the things I enjoy most about doing art shows is hanging out with fellow artists who've become friends over the years. So, one art show down, and two more remaining this month. No rest for the weary, as they say :) But I enjoy it. I'm getting my name out there and my art on people's walls.

*Andrezza took this and many others at the show. I have enjoyed so much her help and company when doing art shows. Plus she's documents it all so well. I'm very very lucky!

Beauty Before Chaos II

This is the piece I was working on in the previous post. Super stoked on how well it turned out. This is a follow up to the first Beauty Before Chaos. I will likely do one more to make a series of three. This series is all about those those fractions of seconds that seem to slow down and show you the sheer beauty of the wave just before it crashes over you…Beauty Before Chaos.

For any of you who are local, I'll be doing the Gosport Arts Festival this weekend in Portsmouth, VA. This piece will be making its debut there, plus I'll have many more new pieces available as well. Come check it out!

I've missed being on flickr these past few days so I had to upload something today :) I am just super busy right now, so unfortunately my flickr time will be sporadic for a while. I'm working a ton of overtime at my job plus I have 3 art shows coming up this month…whew! Last weekend's art show went very well tho, so now I'm painting like crazy preparing for the next one. Although I'm lacking sleep these days, I'm quite pleased with the work that I've been producing. The more you do, the better you get, right? I am particularly pleased with the piece I'm working on here. I will definitely share it when it's finished. So unfortunately this is a post and run. I will check your streams when I can.

Ring Around the Sun

Still keeping with a sunset theme… We were coming home from running errands the other day, and I noticed a couple of little rainbows in the sky. So when I got to an area where I could stop the car I got out and saw that the rainbow was practically a full circle around the sun. Pretty cool phenomena and cool to see.

Trust Your Gut

After all the B&W last week, it's time for some vibrant color :) This was taken this past Saturday. It was a busy day. I had to work and then after work we were out doing things. As we were going home the day was close to ending. I was watching the sky and commenting to Andrezza that it could turn into a nice sunset. She looked at the grey clouds, then looked at me in disbelief thinking there was no way this sky was gonna give us a sunset. But I had a gut feeling you know. So not long after we got home, I grabbed the camera and was like, "I'm gonna go down to the pond to see if there's anything worth shooting. Wanna come?" She reluctantly tagged along. Once we got there, we didn't have to wait long. Soon the sky was filling with color, and the lack of wind made the pond like a mirror. It was truly beautiful. Andrezza just kind of shook her head with a wry little smile, then took my camera to shoot a few frames of her own. Moral of the story… trust your gut :)

A large piece of driftwood—I assume it's driftwood anyway—on the beach at Hawksnest Bay, St John. Thought the B&W helped to bring out the cool textures in it. Check it out on black. Looks pretty cool :)

Ocean Secrets II

This is the second in a mermaid series that I've been working on. This series marks a couple of firsts for me: these are the first mermaids that I've done commercially (I did one for a friend a few years ago), and they are the first nudes I've done on canvas. So far I've done a night atmosphere and now a day atmosphere. What will the next one be? :) Check out my facebook page to see the first one. Camouflage

Staying with the B&W theme… I think it's even more evident in B&W just how well camouflaged sea turtles are. Their gorgeous shells as well as the scales on their flippers really help to blend in to the ocean floor. Waterlemon Bay, St John.

Swimming in Monotones

I was looking thru and editing some turtle pics from St John the other day, and I discovered that I really like how some looked in black and white. The underwater world can be so vibrantly colorful, it's rather unusual to see sealife in monotone. But I really like the feel to this and how it seems much more artistic than just a shot of a sea turtle. Waterlemon Bay, St John.
