St. Paul Kirche

During the Oktoberfest, the neo-gothic church of St. Paul, situated opposite to the Theresienwiese, opens its bell-tower to those willing to climb the stairs leading to the platform.

The church was designed by the same architect responsible for the Neues Rathaus, Georg von Hauberrisser, construction began in 1896 and was completed in 1906. The interior was not finished until 1914, the stained-glass windows were destroyed during World War II and replaced when the church was restored - very unlovingly - in a spare style.

On 17 December 1960 a plane starting from the then airport Munich-Riem could not gain enough height, collided with the tower and crashed onto a full street car passing through the Martin-Greif-Strasse, setting it on fire and resulting in 52 deaths.

Oktoberfest 2010 - 200th Anniversary

This year was the 200th anniversary of the Oktoberfest.

For the anniversary, there was a horse race in historical costumes on opening day. A so-called "Historische Wiesn" (historical Oktoberfest) took place, starting one day earlier than usual on the southern part of the festival grounds. A specially brewed beer (solely available at the tents of the historical Oktoberfest), horse races, and a museum tent gave visitors an impression of how the event felt a century ago.

The picture was taken from the top of the St.-Paul church, just in front of the Theresienwiese.

Rotunda of the Pinakothek der moderne (Munich).

Designed by the German Architect Stephan Braunfels, the Pinakothek der Moderne was inaugurated in September 2002 after seven years of construction. Each of the four corners of the building, connected by a central rotunda, is dedicated to a special collection.

The Highlight Towers in Munich are two Office Towers completed in 2004 and a landmark for modern architecture of the city.

Small lake close to the Eibsee lake, they're just at the foot of the Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany (almost 3.000m).

It's situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley, 2450m high and 80km away from Cuzco (Perú)

It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and was voted in 2007 as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Dachau Bunker

This is a part of the Dachau concentration camp. The bunker was used from 1938 to 1945 to incarcerate high-level "enemies of the state".

These "honor prisoners" were high-ranking clergymen or important political prisoners. They did not have to work and were not subject to punishments.
