His Princess - SL Sculpture

ToySoldier98 posted a photo:

HIS PRINCESS
==========
(May 18, 2013)

This is 3D art mesh sculpture I created based on a request from a couple in SecondLife - FT and his lil girl February. They have loving feelings for each other and FT wanted to express this artistically to her. As such he asked me if I could consider creating a SecondLife sculpture that would express this love.

I normally do not do commissioned artworks but his request captured my imagination and challenge. Since FT agreed to let me have artistic freedom to capture their feelings based on some photos he provided and agreed that artwork I created would be public for me to sell after I completed - I took on the challenge.

From many of the photos they provided, several showed them in a loving "couples moments" embrace. One photo captured my attention instantly. His strong protecting embrace over her from behind looking down into her upward loving & satisfied stare toward his eyes. She felt so safe and loved and happy as their forms lovingly entangled. He truly feels that she is "His Princess" and her his protector.

This sculpture was a major technically frustrating challenge for me as the shape and texture I was able to attain in my 3D modeling tool was being completely lost / reduced when I tried to bring it into the huge limitations within the SecondLife grid. Although I would really have loved to simulate the model exactly in SL, this is how life is with 1024x1024 texture files in SL.

This Sculpture is on display at my Art Gallery in SecondLife and on the SecondLife Marketplace.

(April 2013)

This is the 2nd artistic perspective 2D artwork derived from a commissioned 3D mesh sculpture I have been working for a couple in SecondLife. They have great feelings for each other. He wanted to express that artistically to her and asked me if I could consider creating a sculpture for within SecondLife.

The 1st 2D artistic capture from my 3D Mesh model was called HIS PRINCESS. But I saw from the 3D model that by taking a capture of the posed couple from another angle, it provided a bit of a different emotion.... one of a couple in visual embrace of each other's passion for the other as much as they are physically embraced. From this angle it also seemed to emphasize his protective dominance of her that she willingly adores. I called this work LOVERS STARE.
CREDITS:
As already mentioned, the model of the couple is my own hand ceated 3D model from Zbrush. But I must sincerely thank and provide credit to my favorite texture Artist Pareeerica from Flickr twho allows me to use her amazing textures as inputs to my art creations. The two I used for this artwork were :
From the photos they provided me of them within SL, they showed several of them in a loving "couples moments". One of them fit so well. FT in his strong protecting embrace over her from behind looks down into her upward loving & satisfied stare toward his eyes. She feels safe and loved and happy as they feel each other's form.

I completed the model in my tool just the way I wanted and was texturing / painting it to get ready to import into SecondLife. It looked absolutely perfect within my modeling tool! Then I ran into problems - I could not get the painted model out of the tool the way it looked in the model. So I decided to image capture it in the model and create this 2D artwork from what I had so far.

As I wrote this "Artist's Comments" I had still not figured out nor yet successfully imported the 3D sculptured model into SL, but I am sure I will soon.

This is my first trial photo of my first component of my next 3D Mesh Artwork for SecondLife (and a 2D artwork). Its called "The Piano". It was inspired by a recently create Snow Sculpture that I drive by every day from work.

In SL it will be available for sale as a separate item for vendor props (like Jazz Clubs). But, I have much bigger plans for this 1st part of me next art :)

Its still not available at the time of this Flickr release as it has only rezzed in the SL Beta Grid.

Hold on tight folks!

A special gift was offered to all those who were able to attend the Sunday October 28th Paris Metro Art Gallery Gala - a set of custom created dress fashions in honor of the exhibiting Artists.

Using the art from JudiLynn India & Toysoldier Thor, Paris Zsun has created and released some amazing fashions. She has joined with Endra Graves to accessorize the fashion with beautiful matching jewels. What you see is the fashions created from Toy's "Dragons Fly" artwork.

Although the Gala has passed, the art and a kiosk of these special dresses will be on display at the Paris Metro Art Gallery until mid-November.

Please come and take a look at both.

ToySoldier98 posted a photo:

One morning I was reading the daily paper. I came across a lifestyles photo of two premiere ballet dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as they were in mid-pose while rehearsing for their up-coming lead roles in THE PRINCESS & THE GOBLIN. the Dancers were Alexander Gamayunov and Serena Sandford. Below is the URL link of the photo from the newspaper...

media.winnipegfreepress.com/images/430*506/BALLET_2012100...

The position that the local newspaper (Winnipeg Free Press) captured them in immediately caught my eye on the intimacy of the embrace. I do not know what inspired me as soon as I saw the photo but I wanted to try to create a 3D digital model of this pose as an artwork. I tore out the photo from the newspaper and went to work. Over a week later, I completed my 3D model as well as this 2D rendered artwork from the model.

I will admit that I knew nothing about the actual story of the Princess and the Goblin until I researched it. In summary, its an old childrens fable from the 1800's of a little Princess that grew up deep in the woods of a kingdom. There are also Goblins that live underground and hate the humans. They plot to kidnap the Princess and marry her to their heir to the throne - a prince.

A have not gone to this ballet and I do not know where in the show this pose is used, but I assumed she is the Princess and he is one of the Goblins that has or is about to capture her. My art places the two in a dark surroundings as the Goblins live underground. So this work symbolizes the Princess struggling to escape from the capture of a Goblin.

The 3D Mesh model of this artwork will be displayed in SecondLife - both at my own art gallery as well as at the PARIS METRO art exhibit where myself and JudiLynn India are featured artists starting Oct 18th 2012.
Killing Field

ToySoldier98 posted a photo:

As many Artists can relate, an inspiration can come from so many sources and it hits you instantly or land right on your lap accidently. This is one of those artworks that landed on my lap accidently as an editing mistake while working on another 3D model artwork.

As soon as the mistake stated happening, what I saw on my screen inspirationally clicked as even in its raw form. My artistic mistake vividly reminded me of a horrid scene in a movie I had just watch a week ago called "Behind Enemy Lines". Sadly the movie and its horrid scene was based on a true story - that of the genocide that took place is Bosnia.

Although it was a movie, the scene where the American Pilot evades those trying to capture him by laying in a large pit of dead rotting bodies from a mass killing stuck in my mind. My mistake instantly bonded with that scene.

Yes, this artwork is not a pretty and happy one. But for me, art should draw out emotions. It should tell a story. It should educate & inform in an artistic way. It should remind and inspire to take action and/or stand for a position.

With this work called "KILLING FIELD" I hope it raises the awareness and the intensity of horror, sadness, and anger / intolerance toward any form of genocide. Unfortunately genocide is not an ugly human behavior from our past. It has happened many times in our generation - even in the last couple decades.

worldwithoutgenocide.org/genocides-and-conflicts

The artwork has symbolism - not only the for the obvious you immediately see, but the fact that all the bodies and faces are of the same symbolizes what genocide is all about - the extreme hatred of and extermination of people of a common race, religion, belief, or what ever other commonality by a countering population with the power to execute upon their hatreds.

Too often other world powers are fully aware of an active genocide yet do not have the political will to stop the slaughters until it is too late - unless of course the conflict threatens a valued resource or security for that nation. Fingers cant be pointed to one country as too often most can be blamed.

There are moments in our lives when we feel broken ... helpless ... fearful; when we are shocked and devastated with loss, with grief. Sometimes with shame.

These SHATTERED moments manifest physically. We want to curl up into a ball or collapse to our knees; placing our hands over our heads in a vain attempt to hide from ourselves and from the world.

This is a 2D image of my 3D digital art statue in which I attempt to capture the physical manifestation of this complex emotional state.

I hope for all of you that these darkest of moments are rare. I also suggest that at these darkest times you stand back up off your knees, be strong, and regain control of your emotions to bravely face and tackle what ever triggered you into this darkest state. We all have this in us... its how we each decide to deal with it that is important.
I really enjoy completing each of my 3D Mesh creations for Secondlife with a respective high resolution 2D artwork. If you go into my gallery in world you will see my other Mesh/2D art combos.
I also used 3 textures from the amazing texture collection of Pareeerica as the backdrop to this artwork. Here is the link to her amazing collection of textures!

This is a high resolution capture from my 3D modeling tool that I have been using to perfect my 3D dragonfly models to bring into SecondLife as mesh art / props to sell.

This is a JPG, but the original is a 4000x3000 PNG with transparent background so I could use it and several other model shots of my 3D dragonflies to make a 2D artwork (which you will see soon called "DRAGONS FLY").

It has taken a lot of work in my modeling tool to not only build the model, but also to texture it so that it looks somewhat natural and so that the poly count is low enough that it would be reasonable to res inside Secondlife. My dragonfly models only cost the land 1Prim in Land Impact.

Support Virtual LandMarks in SL

ToySoldier98 posted a photo:

In July I came up with a radical concept for SL that would address a major weakness in SL regarding LMs - LandMarks. I created a JIRA for it and presented it to LL on August 3rd 2012. They seem quite interested. The initial response from Merchants and those that have read about my VLM's concept have been majorly supportive. In fact a major SL blogger posted an excellent article on it this weekend.

I now need the support from fellow SL Residents.

I created a poster / info kit about it that anyone can come to my store and buy a copy for $0L and put at their store, mall, club, venue, art gallery.

maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lafew/220/182/80
Below is a copy of what is in the notecard about VLMs :

Supprt for VIRTUAL LANDMARKS (VLMs) for SecondLife
====================================

WHAT ARE VLMs ?
============

Virtual Landmarks or commonly called VLMs are part of a new proposed service enhancement of the age old LMs (Landmarks) in SecondLife that we all know and love using but what has had a very large limitations.

Currently LMs on SL have a major design weakness / limitation in that once they are created and handed out by the 100s or 1000's by Store / Mall / Club / Venue / Hunt Owners and Organizers, they cannot be changed !!

This is a huge weakness for so many in SL since if one of these owners or organizers decided or must move the original LandMark they gave out to they customers or members, the old LMs instantly become useless and as a completely new one is need to be resent to everyone. It also means that store owners need to go back into all their products and vendors and LM givers and change all the old outdated LMs.

With the proposed VLM service, all this is a thing of the past. Creators of VLMs can manage the VLM and automatically modify / update a master entry for all the VLMs they hand out. Within seconds all the 1000's of VLMs that they handed out will be updated.

There are many other features and benefits to VLMs that have been documented in the official SL JIRA developed by Toysoldier Thor as well as great blogs and discussions threads on VLMS.

WHERE DO I GET MORE DETAILS OR ADD MY THOUGHTS ABOUT VLMs ?
===============================================
Following are links to very well documented threads and blogs on the topic:

HOW DO I SHOW MY SUPPORT ON VLMs & VOTE ?
================================
LL's has been formally presented the concept of VLMs on August 3rd, 2012 at a Server User Group meeting. The presentation was based on the formal SecondLife JIRA entry that was created on the proposed new concept. A JIRA is a SecondLife Support System issue/record that LL staff will officially recognize. The JIRA system has the ability for SL residents to voice their support for a JIRA by being able to login (using your SL ID and Password) and VOTING & WATCHING the issue. For LL it is very important that you click on WATCH !

Following is the URL to the JIRA that you can VOTE & WATCH: :

>>     jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-8082

Also, in order to show LL that SL Residents are serious about wanting this feature, it is very important that you promote the idea of VLMs without the sphere of your friends and using what ever means to communicate to the community. If you can BLOG, TWEET, put a Support Poster up at your store/mall/club/venue, talk to your User Groups, etc.... this will help show to LL that VLMs need to be a priority in SL,

Thank you for your Support !
HOW DO I SHOW MY SUPPORT ON VLMs & VOTE ?
================================

Grand Beach Sand Dunes - eroding

ToySoldier98 posted a photo:

Another photo of the sand dunes that border Grand Beach. I wanted to convey just how deep and tall these sand dunes are that rise up off the beach.

You can see the layers of the sand from this grass topped dune that has eroded one edge off.

It was a windy day so if you look carefully you can see the sand whipping up as the wind is blowing in off the lake. Its these same winds that are creating the amazing shapes on the cliff of this dune. I could easily go to this wall and start digging a hole into it as it is only very packed layers of sand.

Grand Beach - Life After Death

As I was walking through the sand dunes that border the amazing Grand Beach in Manitoba, I saw this beautiful sight of a new growing evergreen that had attached itself to an old dead tree stump. I loved the contrast of the colors between the browns of the sands, the dead wood grey of the old stump and then the explosion of the green in the photo.

It symbolized the life & death cycle in nature - how death becames a seed for life in some way or another.

What also caught my eye on this subject was to see how some of the top roots of this evergreen have become exposed since the loose sands have blown away under it.

The final aspect I like about this cpature is the lighting and direction from the hazy sunlight we had that day.

I just liked how the sand dunes framed the shot.

This is a collage of a talented Para-Waterboarder just off the shores of Grand Beach Manitoba. The conditions were PERFECT for them with a good strong wind coming off the lake all day on July 14, 2012.

I had my DLSR and Zoom lens and I was standing on the shore watching this one dude do his tricks right in front of my just off shore. I was able to catch him do a couple amazing 360's which is real amazing to see. The para sail literally lifts him up out of the water. At one time he flew well over 10 feet in the air.

In another Grand Beach photo I talked about all the amazing features that makes this beach famous and very popular. One was that the entire beach is bordered by a huge tall line of the deepest softest sand dunes you can even imagine playing in.

This is a photo of just a small section of the sand dunes behind the beach. The sand is so deep and soft. You could dig forever and its the same powdery soft sand. The same sand that makes up the beach and the sand that stretches far out into the lake.
