On the approach from California into Las Vegas if you're on the left side of the plane there are several communities like this one where nearly 85% of the homes are identical. Talk about clone homes.

We Olive La Jolla

A wonderful wine and olive oil bar in La Jolla, California. They do tastings for both and the view over looks the Pacific Ocean on a very high up cliff area.

Both shots are SOOC. I placed the camera on the menu and achieved a very shallow DoF. For the wine glasses the lighting wasn't ideal as I was on an outside deck but it completes the composition with the list.

Best viewed a little larger for detail.

The Coronado is a jewel on Coronado Island just across the San Diego Bay. It opened for business in 1888 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. It was once listed by USA Today as one of the "Top 10 Resorts In The World".

The following presidents have stayed at the hotel: Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.

L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, did much of his writing at the hotel, and is said to have based his design for the Emerald City on it.

The name is from The Hobbit in the Lord of the Rings series. This is a Komodo Dragon.

The Komodo dragon, also known as the Komodo monitor, is a large species of lizard found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Padar. They can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh as much as 150 pounds.

The regularly eat pigs and deer, along with smaller animals. They have the ability to climb trees, swim and run quickly on land.

In the wild they are known to carry dangerous bacteria (E. coli, Staphylococcus) that create a reddish saliva. Coupled with their split tongues its curious if Ancient Chinese Dragons were modeled after these creatures.

This shot took me a long time to get the timing correct for the tongue out.

This beautiful silverback gorilla was seen playing with its towel on Pangani Forest Exploration Trail at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The silver back gorilla is also referred to as the mountain gorilla. This species of gorilla was not even known to exist until 1902. Approximately 650 silver back gorillas exist in the world.

Wild male gorillas weigh 135 to 180 kg (300 to 400 lb) while adult females usually weigh half as much as adult males at 68–113 kg (150–250 lb). The can stand up to 5 foot 11 inches.

Highlight of my safari ride was seeing the male lion up and alert.

The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia.

Lions are the only cats that live in groups, which are called prides. Prides are family units that may include up to three males, a dozen or so females, and their young.

At the Disney Animal Kingdom in the bird sanctuary the Golden Weavers are like a beehive of activity. Never a shortage of entertainment if you go.

Flower field

I took a series of flower shots from a low point of view. I decided to post this one because of the natural lighting and the bokeh of the orange flower behind. I'm not sure what type of flower but both the blue one and orange one were the same type of flower.

Danny Lon89 tells me they are Pansies.

Spring is here, although it feels like summer the past few days. Insects, birds and tourists are all over the place.

This wasp I discovered coming out of the ground to take its first flight of the season. I used my Canon 60D with a 55-250MM lens and an additional 25MM macro tube to allow the close up. Because this bug was just emerging it was safe to get this close, normally I would not try it as they can be very aggressive.

You could spend hours inside Saint Patrick's Cathedral photographing all the detail and splendor. I would love to have it all to myself so I could take time and get the proper angles and use my tripod. If you've ever been its almost always a revolving door of tourist and parishioners.

A little view from the Empire State building. The blue hour pretty much finished. The lights are so beautiful. I could gaze out from here all day, if it werent for the freezing winds. My hands literally couldnt push the camera button anymore!

No tripods up there and this is all SOOC.

On the camera and on my home computer the color of the sky is blue. At work its black. hmm

High tea in 4 seconds

While on line to take this spinning tea cup ride I rested the camera on the rail and using the Bulb setting for 4 seconds the cups blurred their way into an action shot. I was happy with the way this came out and would have liked to play around longer and wished for once I was on a longer line! Believe it or not, there are some 16 tea cups flying around in this shot and I was pleased that at least 3 are easily seen as they rotate around the spinning Tea Kettle in the center.

The Mad Tea Party is a spinning tea cup ride at all five Disneyland-style theme parks around the world. The ride theme is from the Unbirthday Party scene of Disney's Alice In Wonderland. The ride has gained infamy over the years for the amount of guests who get motion sickness as a result of the spinning component to the ride.

The attraction is called Mad Tea Party at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. It is known as Alice's Tea Party at Tokyo Disneyland, Mad Hatter's Tea Cups at Disneyland Paris, and Mad Hatter Tea Cups at Hong Kong Disneyland.

All five versions of the attraction are located in Fantasyland, and all except the Tokyo version were opening day attractions at their respective parks.
