One of the senior students at the dojo I train and teach at doing some staff work. He is a "midnight blue" belt in Tang Soo Do. That is their version of a black belt.

Landing

One of a bunch of pictures I took at the dojo I train/teach at in Westborough, MA. The girl kicking is one of the other black belts at the school. I really like this picture. She's landing from a flying side kick that knocked the heavy bag over. She's still on the ball of the landing foot, the kicking leg is drawn back in proper form, her hands are on guard, and she's still looking at the target. I took this with a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
Using this tool, I found out that this photo made the flickr explore page on October 25, 2005.

A book written by a practicing black belt in Shaolin Kempo (disclaimer, I'm a Yodan in that system).
Here is my Amazon Review of the book:
For the martial arts scenes, they were crisp, well written and provided an interesting insight into the internal arts. They also reminded me to practice my Tai Chi more. :-)

This book isn't a murder mystery, lots of people get killed, and it is very clear who done what to who. It is a book about relationships, not nice ones either. It is more about one man's struggle to improve himself and those around him while playing with the cards life dealt him.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it for those who like an engaging read. The good guys aren't paragons of absolute virtue, but that is often how it is.

The classic book written by the man who brought Kempo to the United States. James Mitose. Born in Hawaii, studied in Japan, returned to teach martial arts to other in the melting pot of Hawaii in a Mormon Church Activity center.
Martial Arts Grandmaster and Rev. Minister. Some say con man and loan shark as well. He did die in prison serving a life sentance for a murder he didn't commit.
This is one of the early martial arts book published in America.
