This time showing the arch in the center span of the bridge, as the entire weight of the roadway is supported by the suspension cables. In 1987 for the 50th anniversary of the bridge they closed it to vehicle traffic and allowed foot traffic in all the lanes. So many people (estimated at 300,000) surged onto the bridge that the arch in the middle span flattened out. When the bridge celebrates it's 75th anniv. next year, uncontrolled access will not be allowed.

The bridge has the distinction of being one of the most beautiful, most photographed bridge in the world. Sadly, more people commit suicide at the Golden Gate Bridge than at any other site in the world. The deck is approximately 245 feet (75 m) above the water. After a fall of approximately four seconds, jumpers hit the water at some 76 miles per hour (122 km/h). By 2005, this count exceeded 1,200 and new suicides were averaging one every two weeks. For comparison, the reported second-most-popular place to commit suicide in the world has a record of 78 bodies. Many travel to the city just for that purpose. And sadly the debate rages on over the installation of a suicide barrier...the reason many do not want one...it will spoil the view....

Oh...and just a bit farther up the trail...we spied a bear across the meadow..ok, cool, real cool, until it disappeared in the tall grass...it's last known direction...for me...lol

From the summer...if it could be called that. The only time I like the fog is after the temps have topped 100 for a few days...then I love to feel it returning...I just don't want to see it. I hate waking up to grey skies, so depressing.

It has been a terribly cold summer for us here...fog everymorning till at least 10am..it is so depressing. We wanted to visit Muir Woods on this trip but it was socked in, so we headed up to the upper reaches of Mt. Tam in hopes of being able to enjoy our picnic in the sun...and yup...we got above the fog line. Was kinda cool looking down on it for a change

We were really socked in this morning, very unusual for this time of year, and for it to last till afternoon..extremely strange.,,so I just had to get out and try to get an interesting shot of the fog. I love mornings like this..the whole town seems so quiet and peaceful..too bad it is also accompanied by bone chilling cold...

Mornings like this always make me think of the Stephen King novel (ok, under the pen name Richard Bachman) "The Mist"...great book...totally crappy ending..I hate it when they just leave you hanging like that. Either have them get killed by the monsters, or let us know they made it to safety...lol

It was an 8 hour train ride from Venice to Zurich, so really it took us 2 days of traveling to get home. I wish the train wasn't moving so fast. I also wish that it had been sunny. This is just about the best I could do.

I am going to be gone till Monday, my baby sister is getting married this weekend, I am the photographer, and my son is giving her away, so I will try to catch up with all of you next week. Have a great weekend everyone.
