For everyone out there who wanted a boxcar for Xmas, I give you a red box. This isn't based off any boxcar I've ever seen, but rather that 'boxcar' feel. I challenged myself to build a very light simple boxcar that doesn't look like a turd on wheels. It's very light and very strong. Unfortunately those 1x3x5 bricks in red are not too common, but they are available. This is meant to add to my c.1950s consist as it is a bit short for a modern boxcar. I am very much interested in how everyone feels about this boxcar; what works and what doesn't. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!!

I'm sure TTX can crank out 50 boxcars a day, but it takes me ages to build one. Not that they take long to build, there's just not much glamor in it. I've been meaning to do this render for my own reference. These are all the boxes on wheels I've built in MLCad. Some have made it into the brick, some will soon and some probably never will. Maybe it'll spark someones creativity.

Since everyone else seems to have a 1x1x5 boxcar, I thought I'd join in. This is loosely based on early Pacific Fruit Express reefers. Loosely. Dark orange here for variation. I like this roof more than the brown, but I can't do this one in brown.

Evergreen boxcar

The latest in my modern boxcar series; the Evergreen boxcar (paper products, i think). I see these all the time, but when it came time to build one, I couldn't find a single picture of the ones I'd been seeing. This time I used Jaster's suggestion of building it upside down almost to the roof. The internals have been simplified and even in sand green it's strong. I haven't quite figured out how to make the 'Evergreen' white tree symbol and that'll up the weight too. 418 grams.

I started out trying to build a regular MS Export boxcar with 1x6 tiles for ribs. The 1x6s were really too short and just didn't look right. Then it hit me, HI-CUBE!! Since most modern lines have had their tunnels enlarged, Hi-cubes are pretty common, although I'm not sure if MS Export has any. They'll make a nice addition to my modern freight consist in various colors. Uses the clip-stud technique for the ribs and everything else is pretty standard.

The render for this boxcar went thru about 4 different roofs. I only settled on this one because I hadn't tried it before and the pieces are becoming more common.

The render. Looks a little better here because all the blue is maersk blue. I ran out in the build and used some med. blue and sand blue. Roof's different too.

Finally trying my hand at weathering in the brick. Still a WIP, but it's on it's way. Same basic build as my other modern boxcars and the weathering isn't even snotted, just lots of 1x1 plates. It's either a weathered boxcar or what it is... is beautiful.

If you look closely you can see that each ballast rock has graffiti on it as well. I love how dressed up 'Snafu' looks when it's cursive with a pink background.

I had a trainset when I was a kid that had this boxcar. It was a 'Sliver Streak' set by Tyco, I think. It shows up on Ebay every once in a while. This is a Purina pet food boxcar. I saw it recently in a pawn shop and decided to build it.

This is my version of an old 40ft reefer. Wood-sided w/1x8 tiles. This was also the first model i built and ordered from the Lego factory.
