It was a cloudy afternoon. Fishermen left their boats moored and nets for drying on the bank. A village girl was sitting on a wooden country boat looking out towards the river Yamuna.

The Sundarbans (Bengali: সুন্দরবন, Shundorbôn) is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The Sunderbans is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering parts of Bangladesh and India.

The Sundarban forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal formed by the super confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers across Saiyan southern Bangladesh. The seasonally flooded Sundarbans freshwater swamp forests lie inland from the mangrove forests on the coastal fringe. The forest covers 10,000 km2. of which about 6,000 are in Bangladesh. It became inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997. The Sundarbans is estimated to be about 4,110 km², of which about 1,700 km² is occupied by waterbodies in the forms of river, canals and creeks of width varying from a few meters to several kilometers.

The Sundarbans National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve located in the Sundarbans delta. This region is densely covered by mangrove forests, and is known for the eponymous Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), as well as numerous fauna including species of birds, spotted deer, crocodiles and snakes.

It really becomes a beautiful walk in the night. People come here in the night to jog, run, walk, or simply to sit at the lake side with friends and family. What I find most interesting is that many people also come here with their fishing rods to fish at night . Angling is quite popular here, I think.

Tanguar haor (Bengali: টাঙ্গুয়ার হাওর), (also called Tangua haor), located in the Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj District in Bangladesh, is a unique wetland ecosystem of national importance and has come into international focus. The area of 'Tanguar Haor' including 46 villages within the haor is about 100 sqkm of which 2,802.36 sqhactare is wetland. It is the source of livelihood for more than 40,000 people.

Tangaur haor sits in the important flyway of migratory birds and offers excellent staging ground for them. Every year near about a million of migratory birds visit the haor and that comprise about 98 species.

Tanguar haor plays an important role in fish production as it functions as a 'mother fishery' for the country. Nearly 200 species of wetland flora, 141 species of fishes(which is half of Bangladesh’s total fish species and 55 of them are listed in threatened categories by IUCN), 11 amphibians, 34 reptiles (including 6 turtles, 7 lizards and 21 snake species) and 34 mammal species are found in this unique ecosystem.

It was Christmas eve, and everywhere shops were hoarding their presumed or genuine sale, and everywhere people were buzzing to shop to shop, window to window for last minute shopping. Amongst all these brazen commercial clutter these three kids were immersed in a world of their own, as if the material world surrounding them did not exist at all.
