While we have several chipmunk families onsite, we also receive visitors from adjacent lots who come over to freeload and return home with their stash. Note the extended cheek pouches on this one.

This species is truly a ground dweller. One even built a burrow in the middle of my graveled driveway... it doesn't have a hint of covertness.

The dexterity of those little paws is amazing... it will remove the red shell from that peanut in a matter of seconds. If he eats the peanut he will rotate it as if it were on a spindle and munch on it much like we eat corn on the cob.

This species has become my favorite squirrel species up here. They totally accept our presence and carry on as if we weren't even there. Maybe they appreciate the winter handouts of raw peanuts although the likely already have an ample stash.

This shot was likely taken as close as I could focus with the tele lens (~6 ft.). Clearly this guy is not the least bit spooked. He's too busy munching that peanut.
