On my 300th upload I showed a picture of my Dad driving a diesel engine at Cricklewood carriage sidings:- www.flickr.com/photos/rtw501/8103180903/in/set-7215762757... . Here he is again on my 400th upload.

In his spare time and to earn a little bit of extra money he swept chimneys. He would cycle around with his sweeps brushes and rods in the front carrier from job to job. To save his legs as he got older he purchased a Cyclemaster. This was a small petrol engined 49cc engine that fitted in the back wheel of the bike. He would tinker around with the engine and eventually had a spare engine and lots of parts.

When he died, not having room in my house, I stored them along with lots of other useful equipment – tools, ladders etc, in a remote garage. One morning I found that my garage had been emptied. The landlord said that the garage rent had not been paid, which was untrue as I paid regularly in advance. It was the adjacent garage that should have been emptied. The owner's contractor who had emptied the garage turned out to be illusive and none of my stuff was ever returned. The poor compensation the garage owner offered was of little comfort.

The only thing I have of his old Cyclemaster is the front number plate, the manual and a couple of rather entertaining Cyclemaster journals. He had removed the number plate from the bike when the law changed to allow motor cycles to require only a back number plate. The number is XMP 818.
