I spent Monday evening in Philly, walking around and brushing up on my street photography. Originally, I was hoping for some clouds in the sky so I could take some long exposures of the buildings around Center City. There were plenty when I left home. But, as soon as I got over the bridge they sky cleared up and there was no point in even trying. So I aimed the camera towards the streets. Maybe one day, the clouds will work in my favor and stick around for a bit.

P.S. I really like the new Flickr. :)

I saw these two guys on the doorstep of an art museum in the centre of Riga, Latvia on one of the warmest days of 2013, approx. 25C. I like the fact that one is capturing the scene whilst the other is looking for inspiration.

The Physick House is the only free-standing Federal townhouse remaining in the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia.The house is named after Dr. Philip Syng Physick, the "Father of American Surgery", who lived here from 1815 until his death in 1837. One of the foremost surgeons of his time, Dr. Physick's accomplishments were years ahead of his time. He pioneered the use of the stomach pump, used autopsy as a regular means of observation and discovery, excelled in cataract surgery, and was responsible for the design of a number of surgical instruments and operative techniques. Dr. Physick was affiliated with America's first hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, and was one of the most sought-after medical lecturers of the 19th century. His lectures prepared a generation of surgeons for service throughout America.The garden is unusually large for a city garden, and contains plants popular in the 19th century and features a winding path, grotto, and classical statuary.

Shofuso Japanese House and Garden is a traditional-style Japanese house and nationally-ranked garden in Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park that reflects the history of Japanese culture in Philadelphia, from the 1876 Centennial Exposition to the installation of its contemporary paintings in 2007.

Shofuso was built in Japan in 1953 using traditional techniques and materials and exhibited in the courtyard at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was moved to Philadelphia in 1958, to the site of several previous Japanese structures dating to the 1876 Centennial Exposition. In 2007, internationally renowned artist Hiroshi Senju, inspired by our waterfall, donated 20 murals to Shofuso. A viewing garden with koi pond and island, a tea garden, and a courtyard garden comprise the 17th century-style Japanese walled and fenced garden of this historic site and museum.
