This photo was taken In Lloydminster, Alberta, at Bud Miller Park, a beautiful lake and recreational center facility.

It was storming pretty hard, but I kept my camera well protected and was able to get some really amazing shots of a stormy magic hour sky over the placid lake during gaps in the rain.

La costruzione della fortezza si deve certamente alla posizione strategica del picco roccioso sul quale è edificato, all'ingresso delle sette vallate del Lavedan. I romani sono stati sicuramente i primi a prenderlo in considerazione per edificarvi una fortezza.

Carlo Magno assediò la fortezza occupato dai saraceni di Mirat nel 778. Narra la leggenda che in quella circostanza un'aquila lasciò cadere una trota ai piedi di Mirat, il quale la portò al capo dei franchi, per fargli credere che aveva ancora abbondanza di viveri. Carlo Magno avrebbe creduto a Mirat, ma il vescovo di Le Puy, che l'accompagnava, salvò la situazione proponendo a Mirat di conservare il suo posto a condizione di convertirsi al Cristianesimo. Mirat, affamato, avrebbe accettato e ricevuto il battesimo con il nome di Lorus, da cui Lourdes.

Nei secoli XI e XII la fortezza, quasi inespugnabile, fu la residenza domenicale del conte di Bigorre. In seguito essa divenne una piazzaforte per controllare le strade del pidemontano, che erano ambite da diversi principi, capi della politica del sud della Francia.

Nel secolo XIV la fortezza trovò la sua estensione definitiva con il sistema di cinte successive e la costruzione del torrione, che, all'epoca della sua costruzione, dominava tre altre torri oggi scomparse.

Nel 1590, sotto Enrico IV, la fortezza divenne residenza reale.

Nei secoli XVII e XVIII i re di Francia la usarono come prigione dove rinchiudere tutti i loro oppositori.

Nel 1685 l'architetto Vauban propose a Luigi XIV dei miglioramenti che sarebbero stati parzialmente realizzati dai successori dello stesso re.

Nel secolo XIX il genio militare francese trasformò la fortezza in caserma. All'uopo la struttura viene arricchita dall'aggiunta di numerosi edifici, in particolare la polveriera.

The location of Stoneleigh at the point where early north-south routes crossed the River Sowe has contributed greatly to the development of the village. Bronze Age features have been identified close by, and the name of Motslow Hill echoes the old word “moot” or “meeting place” ; it was the site of a Hundred Court in medieval times. It is possible that the hilltop was a fortified place long before people moved into the valley below, and stone from its quarry was used to build the church and almshouses.

By the time of the Domesday survey in 1086 there were two priests in the parish, though nothing now remains of their church. The manor then possessed two mills and four miles of woodland. However it was the arrival of Cistercian monks who founded Stoneleigh Abbey in the middle of the twelfth century which made the greatest mark on the character of the village in centuries to come.

We stayed for a couple of nights in a small village called Kundasang which is in the foothills of Mount Kinabalu on the edge of the National Park. This mountain is fairly shy the summit is usually shrouded in cloud apart from early mornings. …..No problem set the alarm for six, walk out of the room and from our balcony a perfect of view of the mountain. Took some close up shots with the DSLR but this image was taken on an I Pad think it worked quite well.

Mount Kinabalu is a prominent mountain on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is located in the East Malaysian state of Sabah and is protected as Kinabalu National Park, a World Heritage Site. Kinabalu is the highest peak in Borneo's Crocker Range and is the highest mountain in the Malay Archipelago. In 1997, a survey using satellite technology established its summit (known as Low's Peak) height at 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) above sea level.

Feel a little less negative about flickr now apart from the stupid home page but I have leant a way to avoid it. I do feel the actual image quality is very good

Just a quick couple of posts as I'm very busy at present renovating a property for a friend. The last in the series from my shoot at the Ceibwr Bay area of north Pembrokeshire. The rainstorm reaches land as the sun finally dips over the horizon ending another day. I was happy that I managed to get the flare of the lighthouse at strumble Hd in the image as well.
