(I wrote a little bit about this photograph nearly ten years ago at my friend's website, Freaky Trigger.)

Mom: The next is Daddy and Bobby playing with their trains. And this is probably after Christmas too. Bobby did love that engineer's hat. Now don't forget I hung all the wallpaper. I was a wallpaper queen! Yeah. And I probably paper the trim, too.

Me: You took this picture, right?

Mom: Probably.

Me: And you got really low to take this shot.

Mom: Well, I might've been sitting on something. Like a chair or Bobby's bed. Why would it be interesting?

Me: Well, it's really close up and personal, unlike most of the photographs taken by Dad.

Mom: Maybe because I concentrating Daddy and Bobby enjoying themselves and not the train set. So yeah, I would've taken it up close.

Me: The other thing is...well, how old would Dad have been in this shot? This is 1972.

Mom: Hold on...32.

Me: I know this, I can see this, but he's always going to seem older than me. I don't see somebody younger than I am now, and I'm almost 42!

Mom: Well, let me say the reverse: I look at pictures of you, your brothers, at 30 and 40, and you will never look old to me. So it's in your head. It's your perception. Daddy will always seem older because he's your father.

Me: I think that's part of it. But on the other hand, I think also people my age these days can look and dress and act a lot younger than, say, a 40-year-old could back then.

Mom: Yes, because we were older...well, I mean, life was just different I guess. There was more responsibility.

Me: Well, I think health and diet also plays a part here too.

Mom: And clothes. And it's just a different world. I mean, at the age I am now, back when I was young, women dressed in black and looked like they had one foot in the grave. So you're right.

My Dad and four of his six kids. I'm the youngest in this picture. He is 83 now and has had several healthy years after lung cancer. I love him so much and cannot imagine life without him, but I know that will come to be. I love you, Daddy!
